Another Ballard woman has announced her candidacy for Representative Mary Lou Dickerson's vacated seat. Washington State Director of Progressive Majority Noel Frame announced her candidacy on Tuesday, March 20, promising to champion public education.
“I believe we can and must change course and re-‐prioritize public education as our state’s paramount duty,” said Frame in her announcement.
Frame has an extensive background in politics and education advocacy, having been involved with Washington State Democrats, US Senator Maria Cantwell, The Washington Bus. 36th District Democrats, and the King County Conservation Voters. She also held a leadership role in the campaign to Approve Referendum 71 - the first LGBT civil rights ballot measure to pass by a vote of the people.
A graduate of The George Washington University in Washington DC, Frame went to college on a Parent Teacher Association scholarship, and has been a PTA member for 25 years.
"My family was struggling, and I was worried about how I would get the education I needed when my high school experienced devastating funding cuts following three failed school levies," Frame said in her announcement."I took from my experience a message many of our kids still do today -- that my community didn't care enough to invest in my future. I am entering this race because I am compelled to do more - to take on this cause in the State House of Representatives. It is a challenge I welcome. I will never give up our schools and our kids."
Frame has lived in Ballard since 2005, and is a foster parents to her teenage cousin.
She enters the race with an unmatched base of grassroots support. Her key endorsements include State Senators Nick Harper and Sharon Nelson, State Representatives Laurie Jenkins, Kris Lytton, John McCoy, Jim Moeller, Chris Reykdal, Derek Stanford, Steve Tharinger, and Sharon Wylie. In the community, she is supported by leaders such as Karen Cooper of NARAL Pro-Choice Washington, former Seattle Deputy Mayor Anne Levinson, former Executive Director of the Washington State PTA Jean Carpenter, former Ballard High School PTA president Lyn Porterfield, and Maurice Claussen, owner of The Traveler and The Nabob.
