Meredith Ann Coffin was born on June 18, 1943. Beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend to so many in the Seattle area passed away Thursday morning at Swedish Hospital after a courageous 10 year battle with breast cancer. Meredith touched the lives of so many around her with her vivacious spirit and caring nature. A native of West Seattle she attended Lafayette Elementary, James Madison Junior High, and West Seattle High School. She has been employed by Sea Land since 1964.

Catherine E. Burton, beloved wife of Glen S. Burton went to join our Lord on February 2, 2006. Catherine was born in 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota where she grew up with three sisters and four brothers. Catherine moved to the Seattle area after WWII where she married Glen in 1954 and gave birth to her only son, Michael in 1957. Catherine was a long time resident of West Seattle and attended Holy Rosary Church. Catherine loved to fish and travel throughout the northwest with Glen and Michael. She will always be remembered for her support, love and inspiration she brought to everyone around her.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Bassett was held Feb. 6, 2006, at Bonney-Watson Parker Chapel in Burien.

Mrs. Bassett died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, in Vancouver, Wash. She would have been 81 years old last Wednesday.

She was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Chicago, and lived in Burien since 1946. She attended the University of Illinois. She worked as a dental assistant, and then later assisted her husband in his bookkeeping business. She was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.

Mrs. Bassett loved sewing, crafts, and reading.

On January 30, Richard “Dick” McColley went to be with the Lord. At 90 years old, he had lived a full and satisfying life. Monday morning he was listening to his daughter play hymns, took a nap on his favorite couch, and peacefully drifted off to Heaven.

Dick was born in Puyallup to Robert and Clare McColley. Later in life, he started corresponding with an attractive lady in Japan.

Janet was born June 27, 1912, and enjoyed a happy childhood in Terre Haute,Indiana, under the loving care of her parents Anna Grace and William C. Swearingen.

Fred was born August 28, 1917, to Frederick and Gertrude Wildish in Downer’s Grove, Illinois.

They met in 1940 at Columbian Enameling in Indiana, where Fred was a young engineer and Janet worked as an executive secretary. They were separated in 1941 when Fred enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines.

E. Lorraine Velie passed away Jan. 11 in Federal Way, Wash. The only daughter of George and Mabel Pilant, Lorraine was born July 5, 1912 in Colfax, Wash.

Lorraine attended Stadium High School and was active in many sports, including the rifle club. After getting married, Lorraine moved around the country several times but came back to the Federal Way area where her sons Stephen and Jay grew up. Lorraine worked at Seldon's in Tacoma for many years as a seamstress until she retired.

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii; passed away at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

Shirley is survived by her five children; Caius Charnell, Corlen Charnell, Robin Delgado, Debra Olberg, Stacy Salazar, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was very active in local politics, women's issues and the Federal Way community.

One of her passions was creating paintings with Encaustic Wax techniques.

William was born Jan. 10, 1924 in Seattle, Wash. He died Jan. 16, 2006 at the age of 82.

In college, William was part of the Navy ROTC, and a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Washington and also graduate from the U of W. He worked in education for 30 years, working as a principal in the Puyallup, Anacortes, and Parkland School Districts, and then finishing his career in the Federal Way School Dist. as an Assistant Superintendent in Charge of Personnel. William was a member of Rotary and he enjoyed taking time to go steelhead fishing.

Trygve Mathisen passed away in Ballard on January 21, 2006, at the age of 95. Trygve was born in 1910 in Leirfjord, Norway, to Johan Thorvaldsen and Alette Mathisen. He was the eldest of 16 children. Immigrating to America and settling down in Paulsbo, Trygve became a citizen in 1935. He later moved to Ballard where he lived the remainder of his life. Choosing a lifelong occupation that fulfilled his love of the sea, Trygve became a boat captain and commercial fisherman. He married Gudrun Ringstad and together they enjoyed over 50 years of marriage until her passing in 1991.

93, longtime Ballard resident, passed away Jan. 21, 2006. Born in Ross, ND on Apr. 9, 1912, she grew up in Billings, MT and met and married Herbert E. Zimmerman on Mar. 5, 1930. Shortly after, they moved to Seattle, and raised two children, Herb "Skip" and Jackie. They also owned the Rolling Pin Bakery from 1950-1963. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband and son. Survived by her daughter, Jackie Carskadden; daughter-in-law, Eileen (Ric) Smoot; 6 grandchildren, Vicki, Susan, Scott, Karla, Mark and Darren and 5 great grandchildren, Justin, Eric, Lance, Ashley and Brett.
