Pet of the week: Sammy is a 'bark-less' guard dog
Sammy the Pomeranian lives with Baby Nick, his dad Nick Vrsek and mom Jamie Vrsek. He was originally a rescue dog but he was saved from that fate and now just serves as a "very good guard dog," said Nick.

Normally we interview people and their pets to tell a short and hopefully entertaining story about West Seattle people and their pets. But this time the story supplied by the owner was so good we present it to you without edits.
by Jamie Vrsek
"My husband, Nik, and I adopted Sammy seven years ago, and he is estimated to be about 10 years old. He is not a registered purebred pomeranian, as we don't know who his parents are. We adopted him through Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue which I highly recommend. Sammy was neglected and abused in his previous home and came to us with his front teeth broken from having been kicked in the face. As a result, he had to have most of his teeth removed. His previous owner also had him de-barked, so when he does "bark" it sounds like a cough. Despite having no bark and virtually no bite, he likes to intimidate anyone who walks past our front window by jumping around and snarling, doing his best Joe Pesci impression.
Sammy has no interest in playing with dog toys or chew toys, but he loves to perform! He completed a tricks class where he learned to jump through hoops and tunnels and over hurdles, etc. He can sometimes be found in Lincoln Park practicing these tricks.
Sammy loves long walks on the beach (really, he does), and when he gets tired he jumps in the baby stroller and lets our two-year-old push him along. He lives a very happy life in our home and tolerates sharing his space with a toddler very well. His favorite food is bacon, which he's loved since before it was so cool to love bacon. Sammy sports a shag in the Winter and a mohawk in the Summer. He knows how to lay down, roll over, shake hands, and dance. Sammy packs a mean punch."
