Marjorie Campbell

Of West Seattle, passed away on the morning of May 10, 2007, at the Wesley Home in Des Moines. She was 89 years of age. A daughter, Linda C. Vernon of Renton; and a son, Robert L. Campbell, of Tucson, Arizona; and four grandsons, Mark A. Vernon and Eric L.D. Vernon of Renton, Colin L. Campbell and Cedric Campbell of Tucson, survive her.

Marjorie was born on Nov. 10, 1917, at the home of her parents, Fred C. Scaman and Hallie P. Kinney, in Cashmere, Wash. She was the granddaughter of Wenatchee Valley pioneers.

Howard G. Williamson

Of West Seattle, 1918 - Feb. 18, 2007. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII, worked for Naval Support Activity for 34 years at Pier 91 and Sand Point. He was disabled by a stroke in 1973. Preceded in death by Elvira, survived by Gary, Randy and Annette; Grandchildren Bryce and Chelsea. No service; donation to Veterans Hospital Patients Welfare Fund: 1660 S. Jan Martin Sjunneson

Passed away early on April 20 at the age of 79, after struggling with the disease of alcoholism for a majority of his adult life. He moved to Seattle in 1967 from Stockholm, Sweden and worked here and in Honolulu for United Airlines and was honored as one of Seattle's top five voices by the Seattle Times for his announcements at the airport.

He was an avid sailor who competed in the First World's Cup held in Seattle in 1973, in his 6 meter boat Noa.

King County Housing agency not telling truth

I was saddened to see recent news stories of apartment tenants losing their homes in Burien. I served as Burien City Manager for over seven years. I negotiated the Lora Lake Apartments agreements with the City and the Port of Seattle.

The King County Housing Authority's (KCHA) media hype about this issue is not the full story-it isn't the truth.

Before Sea-Tac International Airport's third runway begins operations, over one-third of the complex must be torn down to comply with federal aviation safety rules.

Burien City Council votes no on Lora Lake

Burien City Council members stood their ground on May 7, voting 5-1 not to revisit a long-standing three-party agreement to close the Lora Lake Apartments in June.

The council acted despite overwhelming public comment to keep the 234-unit affordable housing complex open.

"One of the reasons we became a city was in response to the amount of multi-family housing that was being imposed on our area by King County," Councilwoman Sue Blazak said.

Highline Schools Superintendant Welch wins award

Highline Public Schools superintendent John Welch has been named "the most effective administrator" among large districts in the state.

Welch received the Robert J. Handy Award, presented by the Washington School Administrators Association and PEMCO Foundation, at the association's recent conference in Chelan.

At the district's May 9 board meeting, Welch said, "I feel very honored to have been nominated and selected.
