Lady Lancers stay unbeaten

Fast hands and fast feet fostered fast scoring Friday in a John F. Kennedy 59-50 Seamount League girls basketball triumph at Mount Rainier High School.

Class 3A state No. 3 Kennedy remained unbeaten at 11-0 overall and 6-0 atop the league standings. Mount Rainier (7-4, 4-2) slipped back to third place in the league.

"It was about defense," elaborated sophomore Lancer guard Yasmine Fuller who posted a game high 20 points. "Every time we trapped, we got the ball for layups.

Woman critically injured

in car-pedestrian accident

January 11-An 18-year-old woman was injured in a car-pedestrian accident at about 6:45 a.m. the 17700 block of Ambaum Blvd. S.

She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.

It was dark and raining at the time of the collision. The victim was crossing Ambaum eastbound at or in a crosswalk.

However, according to King County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, witnesses said the pedestrian was crossing against a red light. She was also wearing all dark clothing.

Diverse King Day events set at Highline College

The most diverse college in Washington celebrates its heritage and achievements with the return of Martin Luther King Jr. Week Jan. 21-25.

In a week-long series of events, Highline Community College will welcome a variety of speakers and performers to explore the legacy of the late Dr. King and to examine the state of the nation with regard to diversity today.

Mental health move approved

The Highline School Board cleared the way on Jan. 9 for the Burien branch of the Highline West Seattle Mental Health Center to move from one old school site to another.

Center staffers are currently raising money for a transfer from the former Sunny Terrace Elementary building under the Sea-Tac International Airport third runway flight path to the ex-Burien Heights Elementary, former home of the Burien Senior Center.

The senior center is now located at the Burien Community Center, formerly Chelsea Elementary.

Final Burien Town Square parcels bought

The final acquisition of property for development of Burien Town Square was completed last week.

Urban Partners LLC, in a joint venture with Real Estate Capitol Partners LP, announced it closed on the purchase of 3.26 acres of land from the city of Burien.

That purchase completes the acquisition of property private development by Urban Partners for the town square project.

It also fulfills Urban Partners' 2005 agreement with the city to develop Burien Town Square, a 10-acre, mixed-use residential and retail community with the goal of revitalizing Burien's downt
