Sheriff offers update on White Center officer involved shooting

The King County Sheriff's office has provided updated information on the officer involved shooting that took place in White Center on Feb. 4. The suspect was not shot.

On 2/4/19 at 4:15 PM Deputies were dispatched to a domestic violence disturbance near the 10400 BLK 16 AVE SW, in White Center.  The suspect, a 29 year old male, had vandalized a car and then ran into the Subway restaurant that was nearby.  When Deputies arrived on scene the victim directed them to the Subway.

Shooting ends in death and arrest in Burien

In 2/12/2019 about 9:30 PM King County Sheriff’s Deputies and Burien Police were dispatched to Puget Sound Park at the 12600 BLK 1 AVE SW for a shooting that had just occurred.  When they arrived they located a 22 year old victim that had been shot.  Lifesaving efforts by the Deputies on-scene, and the King County Medics, were not successful and the victim died at the scene.  The suspect, a 23 year old male, fled the scene in a vehicle.

Arrest made in 1995 cold case in White Center; DNA led to suspects

On November 27, 1995, the King County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked in the 200-block of SW 97 PL in White Center. Upon their arrival, deputies found an African-American male, identified later as Kenneth Ruffer, age 26, shot to death within the vehicle.

Alvin “Bud” Springer 11/29/22 - 01/27/19

Alvin “Bud” Springer was born and raised in South Dakota.  He married his sweetheart Alvina Schlecht on April Fool’s Day, 1943.  They had three children:  Gerrie (Dick) Peterson, Penny (Frank) Savage, and Rick Springer.  

They moved to Seattle in 1945. Bud loved his family, spending much time with his children, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.  

Bud also enjoyed traveling throughout 49 states, camping, fishing, hunting, playing pool, and dancing. For over 20 years, the couple spent half the year at their home in Arizona.

UPDATE: Power outages in West Seattle & Burien Monday as snow slowly changes to rain ; Most now resolved

Update 6:45AM Tuesday 

Most of the snow related power outages are now resolved with only a few pockets of outages remaining in West Seattle and Burien. Crews worked through the night to repair downed power lines caused by rain weighted snow, knocking down trees. The remaining outages were expected to be resolved before 12 noon today.

Update 7:20pm Monday

Power outages spread across the west side of the area as rain weighed down already snow laden branches and power lines were affected. An additional 3900 City Light Customers were affected in Burien and point east as of 6:40pm. City Light crews were dispatched to investigate but no time of potential restoration was announced.

960 customers of City Light lost power on Monday night as weather forecasters said rain was coming after heavy snowfall weighed down tree branches and make travel difficult and dangerous.

King County Metro to restore most bus service as road conditions improve

Emergency Snow Network in place on Tuesday, Feb. 12, switching back to snow routes Wednesday, Feb. 13

Information from King County Metro

King County Executive Dow Constantine today directed Metro to restore most of its bus service and shift operations to snow routes starting Wednesday, Feb. 13. This will allow Metro to switch from operating its core Emergency Snow Network (ESN) and expand to providing service on at least 90 percent of routes across King County. Road conditions will be evaluated as Metro repairs and restores its fleet and ramps back up to full service in the coming days.
