The Phoenecia is back and better than ever; Beloved restaurant reopens in the West Seattle Junction

Closed for 9 months the new space is elegant, warm and familiar; Open to the public Sept. 24

By Patrick Robinson

The Phonencia Restaurant, which closed last winter on Alki has been gloriously reimagined and reborn in the West Seattle Junction.

The restaurant whose original location in 1975 was some 250 feet west of their new home at 4717 42nd SW was founded by Hussein Khazaal and his wife Inaam. When Hussein passed away in 2009 they closed briefly then reopened determined to carry his legacy forward. Last winter they were forced out of their location on Alki Beach and had to find a new home. Now they are back where they started, infused with their Lebanese culture, memories and some modern takes on both food and drink. They open to the public on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

320,000 gallon sewer overflow goes into Duwamish; You are advised to avoid water activities

information from Seattle Public Utilities

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has responded to a sewer overflow that reached the Duwamish River. SPU and Public Health-Seattle & King County (Public Health) are warning the public to refrain from water activities like fishing. Public Health’s current closure extends from the Turning Basin (just upstream from the Museum of Flight) to Harbor Island.

SPU received a report about 1 pm Thursday about suspected sewage in a ditch near King County International Airport-Boeing Field. SPU’s Spill Response team reached the site within 30 minutes to investigate the report and conduct testing. After results indicated a sewer overflow, SPU immediately relieved a blockage, caused by a lodged piece of plywood, in a City sanitary sewer line. SPU estimates the total overflow at 320,000 gallons.

City of SeaTac celebrates fast charging EV Stations at Sea-Tac Airport

information from the City of SeaTac

On Friday, September 20, I along with Port Commissioner Courtney Gregoire unveiled the brand new fast charging Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at the Sea-Tac Airport cell phone lot. The charging stations join the two charging stations we installed in 2011 here at SeaTac City Hall. These EV charging stations will help reduce carbon emissions not only in SeaTac but throughout the region.

The four car chargers joins the West Coast Electric Highway which is an extensive network of electric vehicle fast charging stations located every 25 to 50 miles along the Interstate 5 corridor in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, and California. The Sea-Tac station is an addition to Washington State chargers in Bellingham, Chehalis, DuPont and Tacoma.

The Seattle Department of Transportation has followed through on their plan to institute Restricted Parking Zones in the streets around the West Seattle Junction by sending a notice to area residents that the zones will be established during the first two weeks of November.

The process began after SDOT received a request to evaluate residential streets near the West Seattle Junction for a for that purpose and they then completed numerous parking and access studies in the West Seattle Junction and Triangle areas and seeking feedback about area on-street parking.

New Restricted Parking Zone (RPZ) 35 RPZ 35 signs will be installed on the orange-lined blocks shown in the map above.

These signs will limit vehicles without RPZ 35 permits to 2-hour parking, 7 AM – 6 PM, Monday – Saturday. All residents living within the orange-shaded area will be eligible to purchase RPZ 35 permits.
