Cost Benefit Analysis on West Seattle Bridge points toward repair or super structure replacement

Service could be back by 2022 and last 40 years, or by 2026, carry light rail and last 75 years; Final decision still rests with Mayor

The long awaited Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) for how to solve the problem of the broken West Seattle Bridge points toward two most likely choices.

Rehabilitation and direct strengthening to restore the live load giving the bridge another 40 years of service at cost of $916 million total; $47 million upfront or superstructure replacement giving the bridge another 75+ years of service at a cost of $1,005.7 million total, $383.1 million upfront.

Herman Wilken

Herman was born on November 4, 1937 to Carl and Caroline (Lassle) Wilken in Glendive, MT. He attended and graduated from Glendive High School in 1955. He joined the Air Force in 1955 and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, MT. He grew up on a large family farm where he learned his hard work ethics and his amazing tinkering ability of being able to fix and make things out of what was available. He loved anything with an engine but especially 1950 and 1960 automobiles, his preference being “Hot Rod Mopars”.

Providence Mount St. Vincent joins statewide effort to improve quality of care in nursing homes

Providence Mount St. Vincent, a skilled nursing facility in West Seattle, has been selected as one of 30 Washington nursing homes participating in the NICHE Long-Term Care program, specialized training to enhance the quality of care for older adults living in nursing homes. The program runs for three years and is led by NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing’s Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders (NICHE).  It is funded through a grant from the Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and has the potential to benefit more than 3,000 Washingtonians living in nursing homes.

Seattle Southside Chamber announces City of Normandy Park launch of Phase II Local Aid Program-to help support Small Businesses

The Seattle Southside Chamber, in partnership with the City of Normandy Park, announced the launch of Phase II Local Aid (CARES Relief for Small Businesses) in the City of Normandy Park.

The funds available in this grant process originated from the Federal CARES Act and were distributed to cities throughout the State of Washington and King County. One of the eligible uses of grant funds is the provision of economic support and grants to small businesses, which Normandy Park is awarding to local small businesses.
