The Admiral Theater opens again Feb. 5 in limited capacity

It's been a bumpy road for movie theaters during the pandemic with some closing permanently, some (such as AMC) renting their spaces out for private events) but the historic Admiral Theater in West Seattle has tried reopening and now will reopen again on Feb. 5.

During the early days of the pandemic they shut down, and then last October tried to open as restrictions were eased. That did not last long. The Admiral shut down again in November as Phase 1 restrictions came back.

But Governor Inslee announced last week that Phase 2 status of "Healthy Washington - Roadmap to Recovery" will take effect Feb. 1 which means movie theaters will be allowed to operate at 25 percent capacity or 200 people maximum, whichever is fewer.

The films to be shown include (links to advance ticket purchase):

HERBOLD: Vaccination site coming to West Seattle; Nothing firm yet but news should come next week

COVID testing site will be converted to vaccination site

District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold shared this announcement in her weekly news letter to constituents on Friday Jan. 29.

A couple weeks ago, I let you know that the Seattle Fire Department has begun COVID vaccinations starting with mobile teams that will vaccinate up to 1,000 residents and staff of adult family homes and some permanent supportive housing residences.

I explained that the City has the infrastructure in place to quickly turn at least one of the existing COVID testing sites into a mass vaccination site – what we don’t have is access to the necessary vaccine supply.  I’ve heard from many of you wanting to know what’s in store for West Seattle, given the closure of the West Seattle Bridge and ongoing restrictions on lower level bridge access and significant congestion on detour routes off of the peninsula.

Mixed use self storage facility coming to former funeral home site in White Center

The site of the former Yarington's Funeral Home, which burned down on July 8, last year,  at 10708 16th SW in White Center is now going to be a self storage facility, according to a public notice filed July 19.

A corporation called WA SS 16 AVE 20, LLC out of Miami, Florida filed the notice regarding their plan to build the facility there, which will require soil disturbance. That meant they had to file notice with the Washington State Department of Ecology to declare where the runoff from construction activities would go. In this case, it's going to nearby Mallard Lake.
