Yum Yum Teriyaki in White Center burglarized

Yum Yum Teriyaki at 10641 16th SW was burglarized on Tuesday night. The suspects smashed through the glass door, according to the owner, for the fourth time this year.

"They didn't get much," she said, "but made big mess. Glass was all over inside."

The owner said they managed to steal under $200 "in change"  and "they stole all our hand sanitizer too."

If you'd like to help Yum Yum and show support you are asked to just order some food either in person (preferably) or through Grubhub using this link.

Crime in White Center has seen a spike since a series of fires struck the main business district during 2021 but overall, the King County Sheriff notes crime is down in the community.

To White Center business owners crime feels out of control; Crime stats say it's declining

King County responds by announcing a virtual Public Safety meeting set for Oct. 19

An incident on Tuesday morning, Oct. 12 around 7am brought several things into focus in White Center. The Ring Camera at the back door of the Bizzarro Italian Cafe on 16th SW recorded two men, using a pry bar to break in the back door. This took place in broad daylight. One of the men did not disguise his face. The other is apparently someone known to local business owners as a likely suspect in a series of break-ins or attempted break-ins in the community in the last three months. The King County Sheriff was called since an alarm was tripped. A deputy responded at 7:37AM but the perpetrators were gone. Next door to the cafe is the Southgate Roller Rink. They called too. Then it got more interesting. As the day wore on the video and stills of the break in were posted on social media and people recognized one of the perpetrators and even spotted him riding his bike around the community. More calls were made to 911 by Erin Rhoads of Southgate Roller Rink.

Warnings start Oct. 15 for the 72-hour parking rule

Initial focus will be on abandoned, hazardous vehicles

information from Seattle Department of Transportation

With an increase of abandoned vehicles across Seattle, the City of Seattle will resume enforcing the 72-hour parking rule beginning October 15, 2021. While warnings and citations may be issued on any vehicle parked in one place for 72 hours, the initial focus will be on clearing unoccupied hazardous vehicles that may have been abandoned over the past 19 months.

City Traffic Code does not allow a vehicle to be parked on the same block of a city street for longer than 72 consecutive hours. In general, public streets are not an appropriate place for long-term vehicle storage. The 72-hour parking rule can also help prevent people from abandoning broken or unused vehicles on city streets.
