Amazon Pick up store in Ballard to close

January 31 is the last day

Geekwire is reporting that the original Amazon Pickup store in Ballard is set to close at the end of the month. Located at 5100 15th Ave. N.W. the store was the first of its kind, opening in 2017.

It has been a place to both pick up groceries and and drop off returned packages.

The other Pickup location in SODO will remain open for now.

The closure is part of a broader move by Amazon to back away from brick and mortar operations.

Spokane Street low bridge will reopen today

Scheduled for 2pm opening

Information from Seattle Department of Transportation

Following successful repairs and testing of the Spokane St Swing Bridge (low bridge), the bridge reopens this afternoon, Friday, Jan. 13. Crews have already begun removing fencing and traffic control equipment around the bridge, and expect to finish removing signs and barricades by 2 PM.

Through extensive collaboration and long hours, we made major progress over the past 21 days to bring the low bridge back into operation. This effort included building a cradle to successfully remove a damaged 15,000-pound cylinder, repairing underground conduit, and replacing valves and hoses on the eastern bridge span’s hydraulic power unit (HPU). We also completed reprograming and testing of the bridge’s movable spans using one less cylinder, to ensure safe and effective operations.

Police in South Park arrest woman, recover stolen car, mail

by Detective Valerie Carson

Seattle Police Blotter

Police arrested a woman in a stolen vehicle Wednesday morning, Jan.11, after her attempts to flee from officers resulted in a scene reminiscent of Austin Powers attempting to do an 18-point turn a shuttle cart in a hallway.

At 10:17 a.m., police in the 7700 block of Detroit Avenue Southwest spotted a parked Ford Escape with no license plates. When officers checked the temporary plate in the rear window, they learned it was associated with a different car, a Toyota.

Officers drove up to the front of the Ford and activated their lights and sirens. The woman in the driver’s seat quickly put the car in reverse and tried to drive away.
