Detectives investigating homicide at Shree's Truck Stop in Highland Park

Seattle police detectives are investigating a homicide in the Highland Park neighborhood Sunday night. 

At 8:01 p.m., patrol officers responded to a shooting in the 7800 block of Detroit Avenue Southwest at Shrees Truck Stop. They arrived and located a 53-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Seattle Fire Department arrived with police and provided medical aid to the victim. Despite all life-saving efforts, they pronounced him deceased. 

Police cordoned off the area until detectives with the Homicide and Crime Scene Investigations Unit arrived and processed the scene.

The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation. The suspect(s) fled the area, no arrests have been made at this time.

The comment process for Sound Transit meetings is not easy.  These hints might help.  The vote on whether to go forward with light rail for West Seattle will be cast within the next few days.  The full board will be in attendance at the Sound Transit Board of Directors meeting (1:30-5;00pm, 24 October), and we expect them to vote on the West Seattle Link Extension light rail project at that time. To give the board members time to read about our concerns BEFORE they vote -  our comments should be sent to the individual members by; Saturday, October 19th.

Get ready for a hauntingly good time as White Center transforms into a bewitching Halloweentown on October 31st! The neighborhood is brewing up a cauldron of fun for ghouls and goblins of all ages, promising a night to remember.

From 4 pm to the witching hour of 2 am, 16th Ave SW between Roxbury and SW 100th St will be alive with the spirit of Halloween. The street closure begins at high noon, setting the stage for an enchanting evening.

West Seattle hosts Lakeside for a 4:30 p.m. Friday game at the Southwest Athletic Complex and Chief Sealth visits Cleveland there at 7:30 p.m.

Highline entertains Lake Washington at 7 p.m. as Ballard visits Seattle Prep.

Kennedy Catholic travels to Auburn Memorial to face Auburn-Riverside at 7:30 p.m.

Seattle visits Minnesota for a 5 p.m. Saturday hockey game before dropping in on Dallas at the same time Sunday.

The Kraken go on to Nashville at 5 p.m. Tuesday and come home to Climate Pledge Arena to play Philadelphia at 7 p.m. next Thursday.

All four games will be televised on KONG with Thursday's also shown on Channel 5.

Sound Transit committee approves West Seattle Link Extension move to design phase despite concerns

Route is now set

The Sound Transit System Expansion Committee voted unanimously to approve the West Seattle Link Extension project, advancing it into the final design phase. The decision came after a lengthy discussion about cost concerns and potential impacts on the surrounding community. The preferred route is now set.

The Sound Transit Board will vote Oct. 10 on a resolution selecting the final route, profile, and stations for the West Seattle Link Extension light rail project. The decision, to be made on October 24, 2024, will mark a significant milestone in extending light rail service to West Seattle.

The Lancers ran their overall record to 5-0 and their North Puget Sound League Class 4A mark to 3-0.

The Wildcats improved to 2-3 on the year with Saturday's victory over the Quakers.

The Bulldogs enjoyed a big win over the Eagles in Renton this past Friday.

Clerk at 7-11 assaulted by two men in robbery; Suspects possibly thwarted in second attempt

#2024-279573/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch:

At 1:31 am on October 2, two suspects walked into the 7-11 located at the 4300 BLK of SW Admiral Wy. The suspects were driving a possibly dark sedan.

The suspects entered the store, and one jumped over the counter.

The second suspect walked around the counter. The suspects punched the clerk in the back twice and jabbed the back of his neck. The clerk felt pain.

The suspects took approximately $200.00 in cash and left in the vehicle. The manager responded to the scene and video footage was reviewed.

Possibly the same car was seen at a 7-11 located at the 9000 BLK of Delridge Wy SW.

The two suspects attempted to walk inside the 7-11 wearing masks, but the clerk locked the door (Case# 24-279550). The SPD Robbery Unit was notified about both incidents.
