West Seattle is set to welcome its newest sweet spot as Molly Moon's Ice Cream celebrates the grand opening of its West Seattle scoop shop on June 21st. This highly anticipated event marks the eleventh location for the beloved ice cream purveyor in Western Washington, following their recent opening at the Seattle Waterfront.

The new shop is conveniently located on the northeast corner of California Ave SW and SW Alaska Street. The grand opening promises a day full of celebration, kicking off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with @westseattlejunction at 3 PM, followed immediately by opening to the public. For the youngest ice cream enthusiasts, there will be free kids’ scoops for children 12 and under from 3 PM to 5 PM.

The shop will remain open until 11 PM for the day’s festivities.

Community-Driven solutions announced for Delridge Way SW, resolving longstanding safety concerns

A collaborative effort between Mayor Bruce Harrell and Seattle City Councilmember Rob Saka has yielded a "community-driven solution" to address persistent roadway safety concerns on Delridge Way SW. The new plan aims to enhance safe access for all road users, particularly focusing on the needs of the Refugee & Immigrant Family Center (RIFC).

RIFC is located at 6535 Delridge Way SW.

Seattle Police to enhance encryption to radios in early 2026 to improve safety and protect the public’s sensitive information

Seattle Police will keep main dispatch channels open, but will enhance encryption on radio channels used for tactical communications and sharing sensitive and personal information. 

In Quarter 2 of 2026, the Seattle Police Department (SPD) will enhance encryption to radios used for tactical communications among our personnel. Encrypting radio communications means radio transmissions can only be heard internally by the intended audience. The primary reason SPD has chosen to encrypt radios is to enhance the safety of community members and first responders, and to protect the public’s sensitive information from being shared to a wide audience.

Seattle Night Out 2025 is August 5th; Register your party today

The Seattle Police Department shared the number of Night Out parties set for August 5.

Night Out is a national event promoted in Seattle by Seattle Police Department Crime Prevention. It is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, increase neighborhood support in anti-crime efforts, and unite our communities.

Junction Ace Hardware rolls out Grand Re-Opening Celebration following rebrand

Junction Hardware, a fixture in West Seattle for 70 years, is set to celebrate its grand re-opening as Junction Ace Hardware on June 28th. The event, taking place from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, marks the culmination of its transition from Junction True Value Hardware, a rebrand that began in late 2024 and fully unfolded by early 2025.

This change was prompted by True Value's shift away from a cooperative model after being sold to a private-equity firm, leading store owner Bruce Davis to seek a new affiliation. By joining Ace Hardware, the store has returned to a cooperative structure, enabling member stores to share in profits.

The switch also brings significant enhancements, including a stronger online presence, expanded product selections—especially in grilling equipment and power tools—and additional services like handyman support. Importantly, the store remains locally owned.

The West Seattle Glass Float Hunt returns August 8-15, and float sponsorships are now available.

The Hunt, originally conceived as a way to bring people into the West Seattle community following the pandemic has evolved into a community specific business promotion. Businesses now sponsor the floats and hide them in various places for a one week hunt.

If you own a West Seattle business with a storefront, contact the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce HERE to sign up. Deadline to sponsor is July 14

The floats are locally made by Avalon Glassworks.

Car shot several times as couple drove home on 35th

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

#2025-166895/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch/W2:

At 10:21pm on Monday June 16, the victim and his sister were returning home from a family event and driving Northbound on the 6000 BLK of 35 Ave SW.

An unknown vehicle pulled up next to the victims and shot several rounds inside the victims’ vehicle. The victims ducked and sped off.

They returned home and called 911. Multiple shell casings were found at 35 Ave SW/SW Raymond St. Officers checked for cameras, but didn’t locate any at this time.

The suspects or suspect’s vehicle is unknown. The victims didn’t get struck by the rounds.

A similar incident occurred last week on Alki involving different victims (25-161571). GVRU was notified about the incident.

Power outage hits South Seattle and White Center; now resolved

Power now restored.

The outage has been reduced to 445 customers in Southwest Seattle, centered on SW Orchard Street. Restoration is expected soon.

A power outage hit 6376 Seattle City Light customers on Monday June 16 after 5pm affecting homes and businesses on the south down to 112th Street SW and on the north up to SW Brandon Street.

On the east sections of South Park were affected and the outage went over to approximately 26th SW on the west.

City Light is investigating the cause and estimated restoration after 11 pm tonight.
