For audiences who believe they have seen every possible version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Burien Actors Theatre (BAT) offers a hilarious and inventive challenge with the Northwest Premiere of The Past, a Present Yet to Come. This play, running November 28 through December 21, 2025, is not just another holiday tale, but an irreverent imagining of how Dickens’ famous story actually came to be written.

Set in Victorian London, the plot centers on a young entrepreneur who seeks to soften his Uncle Ebenezer Scrooge’s notoriously hard heart by producing a play. For this unusual mission, he engages the help of no-nonsense theatre producer J.B. Roth, who then hires the broke and philandering Charles Dickens. The mission begs the question: are there ulterior motives driving this unlikely theatrical attempt to save Scrooge?

High winds gusting near 40 mph took out the power for nearly 5000 West Seattle City Light customers on Friday Dec. 5. 

The outage extended from Alki Point down to near Fauntleroy Way SW on the south. It put out the lights along Beach Drive SW up to 49th SW on the east, until Juneau Street SW where it extended over to 32nd Ave SW.

High winds also took down a tree in the West Seattle Junction, in front of the former Starbucks location.

Restoration was not expected until around midnight.

“@Bindlepunscoffer,” “@theknittingschool,” and “@highbrow_hedonist” are some of the artists selling vintage goods, jewelry, and pottery that you’ll see at the Sweet Reel Pop up 11-4 p.m. Sunday December 7 at 5001 Delridge Way SW. Soups, savory hand pies, and desserts will be available from local chef Madeline, who formerly worked at VIF in Phinney Ridge.

“We find different artists from word of mouth… I love them all. Come check us out and enjoy some food and buy some local art,” said host Angie Norwood Browne, who has owned Sweet Reel photography studio and production group with her husband, Eric Browne, for 21 years.

“(Eric) is retired now, but he did film and video, so that was the reel, and I photograph food, and that was the sweet. Sweet Reel,” Browne said. “We’ve been here since 2004 – 21 years now.”

Throughout the month of December, the Seattle Police Department Traffic Section will have officers on the streets watching for impaired drivers.

Every night this month officers will be across the city, watching busy streets and paying close attention to popular nightlife areas. The goal of this effort is to stop drivers before they cause injuries or fatalities.

For the first time since 2019 the department will be launching a DUI emphasis team. This team will work nightly, from 6 p.m. until 4 a.m., throughout the city.

At 4:11AM on Tuesday December 2, Seattle Police officers responded to the 4400 Blk of 35th AVE SW for a 911 call regarding a robbery.

Upon arrival, Officers located the victim and the suspect.

The victim advised she was robbed and assaulted by suspect inside the suspect’s apartment. The victim is an escort and made a house call to the suspect’s apartment, where she’d been once before.

The victim said that the suspect wanted additional services outside of their agreement, and she was unwilling to provide them unless he paid for it.
