The Seattle Police Department (SPD) Crime Prevention unit is calling on residents to step outside and connect with their neighbors for the annual Seattle Night Out, scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Registration closed July 27.

Following the national tradition of gathering on the first Tuesday of August, the event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness and bolster local anti-crime efforts through increased neighborhood support. Organizers emphasize that the core spirit of the evening is to foster camaraderie and unity by encouraging community members to meet both familiar and new neighbors.

The Junction is coming alive this weekend as the 44th annual West Seattle Summer Fest officially begins, promising a weekend filled with music, food, and community spirit. While the main festival runs Friday through Sunday, the celebration starts early with Summer Fest Eve on Thursday night, July 9, where local streets will be transformed into exclusive outdoor lounges with special menus. A Pioneering Green Initiative

The transformation of Alki Elementary School is entering its final stretch, with project leaders announcing that the new building is on track for a late-summer debut.

According to a July 2026 update from the project team, construction has reached its concluding phases. Workers are currently focused on interior finishing, including final cleaning, punch list items, and the commissioning of vital systems such as heating, ventilation, and advanced security. The team also anticipates receiving final inspection and approval from the City of Seattle by mid-July.

A Community Celebration

The community is invited to celebrate the project's completion at a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for August 26, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. This event marks the official opening of the state-of-the-art facility for Seattle Public Schools.

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has released a comprehensive review of the West Seattle Junction and Triangle, revealing that while the neighborhood is a thriving hub for pedestrians and transit users, on-street parking has reached a breaking point.

The study was initiated to understand how the curb space—last reviewed in 2017—is functioning following years of growth in housing, outdoor dining, and delivery activity. The findings suggest that as the neighborhood prepares for future light rail development, demand for the limited 1,290 parking and loading spaces is higher than ever.

Starting Sunday, July 12, West Seattle’s brunch scene is getting a Mediterranean-inspired upgrade. Nadia Khazaal, responding to frequent customer requests for more local brunch spots, has spent weeks developing a menu for the Phoencia Restaurant  that takes traditional breakfast staples and reimagines them with a signature "Phoenecia Twist". Running every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, the new offering is designed as a sophisticated alternative for adults to gather for food and conversation rather than sports.

Sweet and Savory Innovation

More than 300 people took part in the annual Admiral 4th of July kids Parade. Leading the way was an antique fire truck, followed by families, festooned in patriotic colors.

They traveled from 44th and Sunset to Hamilton Viewpoint Park where they enjoyed holiday food favorties. Sack races, food trucks & entertainment were all part.

The Seattle Police Department was there to keep order and do community relations. The Seattle Fire Department was on hand as well.
