Alki Elementary School is nearing completion with a move in date set for July 6.
Seattle Public Schools
The transformation of Alki Elementary School is reaching its final stages, with the project team officially announcing that move-in is scheduled to begin on July 6, 2026. This milestone marks the culmination of an intensive construction period aimed at providing a modernized learning environment for the community.
During the past month, the project has achieved several critical benchmarks. Crews successfully completed solar system installation and a building envelope pressure test to ensure energy efficiency. Infrastructure work also progressed significantly with the completion of paving on 59th Ave. and the south side courtyard, as well as the installation of bioretention planter walls.
According to the latest neighborhood update from Cornerstone General Contractors, the team is now focused on the technical "testing and balancing" phase for the building's HVAC and water systems. Final landscaping and irrigation are also underway as the site prepares for its upcoming Fire Department and building inspections.
Neighborhood Impacts and Safety While the project nears its end, residents should be aware of ongoing local impacts:
- Playground Updates: The South Alki Playground remains closed for several months for improvements. Families are encouraged to use Whale Tail Park to the north, which remains open.
- Sidewalk Closures: The sidewalk on the east side of the site stays closed for safety and clearance.
- Traffic and Deliveries: Truck deliveries are expected 4-5 days per week between 7:00 AM and 3:30 PM. Neighbors are urged to make eye contact with drivers and follow all flagger instructions.
The next steps for the site include installing Parkway playground equipment, finalizing site finishes like bike racks and benches, and securing final inspector sign-offs.
