Following the completion of major underground wastewater repairs by King County, Seattle Department of Transportation crews have officially started work on the final block of the Alki Point Healthy Street walking and biking path.

The new extension connects the existing pathway on Beach Drive SW to a newly installed flashing beacon crossing located at 63rd Avenue SW.
The street improvements come after King County finished its Murray Force Main Rehabilitation Project in October 2026. The wastewater initiative involved relining 350 feet of damaged pressurized sewer pipe and adding two new air valves to help prevent future pipe corrosion along Beach Drive SW near Lowman Beach Park. With utility work complete, municipal crews are now advancing surface infrastructure designed to make walking and roll-travel safer for West Seattle residents.
As part of the final path installation, crews are installing new wheel stops and Tuff Curb infrastructure to separate pedestrian and bicycle travel from vehicle lanes. The upgrades also feature textured walking surfaces to assist individuals who are blind or have limited vision, along with additional loading zones, accessible parking spaces, curb ramps, a re-installed speed hump, and permanent Healthy Street signage.
King County officials are encouraging community members to share feedback regarding their experience during the sewer construction phase. Residents can participate by taking the online Post-Construction Survey or the Spanish Post-Construction Survey, both of which are accepting responses through November 10, 2026. Further details are available in the county's latest construction update bulletin, and community members may reach out directly to project representative Frances Kuo by calling 206-263-9237 or via email .
