The Seattle Department of Transportation is rolling out community engagement sessions for two major neighborhood initiatives under its People Streets program: the SW Lander Street project and the Delridge Triangle project. Both efforts aim to convert underutilized public rights-of-way into vibrant, pedestrian-friendly spaces, and city officials are inviting residents to help shape the final designs.
Planned Changes in Both Neighborhoods

-
SW Lander Street: SDOT is proposing to close or restrict motor vehicle traffic on the one-way eastbound block located between Lafayette Elementary School and the building housing local establishments like The Good Society and Seattle Yarn. The goal is to improve student safety, reduce turning conflicts, and create a welcoming public gathering area.

-
Delridge Triangle: Located in South Delridge along 18th Ave SW between Delridge Way SW and SW Barton St, this project focuses on a temporary-to-intermediate makeover. Planned improvements include public seating, enhanced lighting, wayfinding, and community amenities to activate the space.
Why SDOT is Seeking Public Feedback
SDOT's Urban Design Team is actively seeking public input to ensure these neighborhood transformations reflect community needs. Public feedback helps planners evaluate potential traffic shifts onto adjacent residential streets, address parking and local business delivery concerns, and determine what physical amenities best fit each neighborhood.
Residents who cannot attend the in-person gatherings can learn more, view project updates, and share their thoughts by exploring the official SDOT People Streets and Public Spaces Program and taking the project survey. You can also reach out to the project team directly via email at UrbanDesign@seattle.gov.
