Highline's Jeff Nelson will win the Seamount boys individual top golfer award, Kennedy's boys will win the team title, and Kennedy's girls could win the team title, as these stories all became real with the Lancers beating the Pirates in both boys, 63-54, and girls easily, at the Glen Acres course Thursday.

Rams score big against Evergreen

KENT - Local knowledge and comfort in ideal weather added up to Seamount League home course victories for Mount Rainier against Evergreen Thursday at the Riverbend golf course.

Against an undermanned, but hard-working Wolverine squad, the Rams shot to a 117-29 win in girls action and a 64-11 victory in boys play.

After 10 days of playing on visiting courses, the Mount Rainier scoring showed that there's no place like home.

"They were just relaxed," said Ram head coach Lance Hepworth about his charges.

Man charged in death of White Center infant

A 31-year-old man was arrested Oct. 6 in connection with the death of 11-month-old Melissa Carranza Oct. 6.

The King County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit started investigating the death after the infant was brought into Children's Hospital and Medical Center on Oct. 3 around 8:30 p.m.

She died at the hospital.

The girl lived with family in the 11200 block of 2nd Ave.

City of Medina city manager hired by Normandy Park

Doug Schulze will trade one prosperous waterfront community for another on Nov. 1 when he becomes Normandy Park's new city manager.

He has spent the past 10 years as city manager of Medina.

Schulze came to Medina from Minnesota. He has been in municipal management for 18 years.

"We are very, very happy to have him as city manager," commented City Councilman Stuart Creighton.

Sea-Tac Airport closes terminal-return ramps

The two "return-to-terminal" ramps at Sea-Tac International Airport were permanently closed on Oct. 9.

They will be demolished in the next several weeks to clear the way for the light rail extension from South 154th Street to the airport and major airport roadway improvements.

A new, expanded return-to-terminal loop with significantly increase vehicle capacity.

Mostly drivers who circle the airport while waiting to pick up arriving passengers used the return-to-terminal ramps.

Who's going to teach Burien's teens how to drive?

It will be harder to find a professional driving instructor following the state Department of Licensing's closure of Diamond Driving School in Burien.

Owner Gary Probst signed on Oct. 4 an agreed order with Licensing that revoked his driver training school license for the Diamond school at 6331/2 S.W. 150th St.

Burien breaks ground on town square project

The start of construction on Burien's Town Square was celebrated Oct. 10 with a groundbreaking ceremony at Southwest 152nd Street and Fourth Avenue Southwest.

U.S. Sen. Patty Murray and Rep. Jim McDermott, who together with the rest of Washington's congressional delegation have been instrumental in obtaining millions of federal funds for the long-awaited development, spoke at the event.
