Strong run-scoring action by the Renton 8-10 age Little League baseball All-Stars broke open a close game to win a morning first round game of the 2018 District VII tournament.

Leading only 2-1 after two innings at the PAC West fields on Sat., June 23, Renton proceed to blow the game open with five hits in a four-run third inning.

Dane Peterson doubled to lead off the PW fourth ahead of an Aidan Davis slicing RBI single to right field. Davis was able to connect with an inside-to outside swing on the pitch, but for Pac West it was like answering artillery bombardments with BB guns.

Eleven batters went to the plate in a six-run bottom of the fourth inning to close out a 12-2 win on the 10-run mercy rule.

In the first inning, the Renton All-stars eked out a run on an infield single, an infield ground out and Josh Lueck’s RBI base hit.

White Center Refresh gets things cleaned and painted

One of the White Center Community Development Association's (CDA) signature events, The Refresh set out to clean the streets of White Center of litter, garbage and junk on June 23. But better than that the first of a possible six new community murals was begun.

That first mural is now complete and is on the north wall of Los Portrillos restaurant between 16th SW and 15th SW along Roxbury Street SW.

It's the work of Angelina Villalobos, a Seattle born art activist and  who partners with communities connecting art with action. "My work strives to engage viewers to partake in their environment through observation & participation. I believe community engagement is vital to successful art planning and that art should be accessible to all." She is doing the work free of charge. That's also the case for the other murals planned around the community.

Unicorn Two bar coming to White Center; Massive carnival themed space will be colorful and quirky

Food, games, music, and more will be part of White Center's largest bar ever

White Center has never seen anything like this. The Unicorn Two is coming to town full of carnival colors and wild decoration thanks to artist and owner Adam Heimstadt. His existing carnival themed bars on Capitol Hill in Seattle Unicorn and Narwhal have achieved a kind of legendary status for their over the big -top style decor. They have been written about in Buzzfeed, visited by Anthony Bourdain, and many others.

The new space won't be open until December 2019, Heimstadt said, in part because of the extensive work that is required. Located in the La Camera building that spans the block between 16th and 17th SW  the business itself will be at 9832 17th SW.
