Renowned Boeing test pilot “Sandy” McMurray passes

Henry Sanford "Sandy" McMurray, 90, flew B-17's over France, Germany, tested 747's for Boeing

Over 30 attendees, some sitting in folding chairs, others standing, all facing the Seattle Museum of Flight's B-17 and dais, witnessed a humble West Seattle WWII pilot and Boeing test pilot, Henry Sanford "Sandy" McMurray, 90, receiving an award Feb, 21.

He was officially presented with a medal, the prestigious "Chevalie Légion d’Honneur". Dan Hagedorn, Senior Curator of the Museum of Flight, made opening remarks. Jack A. Cowan, Seattle's Consul Honoraire de France, pinned McMurray with the badge, and a cultural kiss on each cheek. The badge has a metallic star over a green garland below another garland, dangling firmly from a bright red ribbon. His sister, three children, grandchildren, and great-granson witnessed the honors.

Mayor Delivers Good News and Bad

By Jean Godden

On the day after Valentine's Day, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan delivered the annual State of the City report to our plague-wracked city. It was a sweet and optimistic "valentine" for city dwellers but decidedly short on specifics. It was as though we were being treated to hors d'ouevres and dessert but no main course.

Delivering her speech at the Filipino Community Center, where there are plans to set up a vaccination clinic for seniors, the mayor projected an upbeat mood. The speech was super short (six minutes max), shortest of any of the four she has delivered during her three years and one month in office.

West Seattle vaccine pilot site opening at SWAC; Appointments required and only by referral at first

Rainier Beach and West Seattle to become fixed, permanent stes when supply increases

information from the City of Seattle

Mayor Jenny A. Durkan announced the City of Seattle’s plan for vaccinations administered by the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) Mobile Vaccination Teams (MVT). Last week, the City of Seattle had 3,000 first doses of the Moderna vaccine and 2,000 second doses of the Moderna vaccine. This temporary doubling of the City’s weekly allocation is caused by severe winter storms nationwide, which delayed the shipment of last week’s doses. The vast majority of last week’s appointments were not impacted due to additional doses from health care providers.
