Six story, 18 unit condominiums proposed for Harbor Ave; The Stone Cottage site


A Land Use Application has been filed with the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections to allow a 6-story, 18-unit apartment building to be built at 1123 Harbor Ave. SW the same site the historic "Stone Cottage" has occupied since the 1930's.

 Parking for 27 vehicles is proposed. The existing building to be demolished. Administrative Design Review conducted under 3035991-EG.

The property is currently valued at more than $4 million.

The Stone Cottage is still in a fund raising mode but is expected to be moved in mid-April to a site just down the road where it will be stored until a more permanent site can be found for it.

New School Board Director appointed: Erin Dury fills vacated position

The Board of Directors for Seattle Public Schools voted this afternoon to appoint Erin Dury to the position of Director, District IV, for the SPS Board of Directors. 

The appointment follows an extensive public input process that began after the January 7, 2021 resignation of former Director Eden Mack. 

Director Dury was sworn in at today’s regular school board meeting. The swearing-in immediately followed the vote of the sitting board. 

After being sworn in, Director Dury joined her new colleagues as the board continued its regularly scheduled meeting.

Edging closer to making a wish come true; Southwest Athletic Complex likely to be named after beloved groundskeeper Nino Cantu

When her friend Nino Cantu passed away suddenly on Oct. 12, 2018, Doree Fazio-Young was left with a huge hole in her life. Cantu was the head groundskeeper at the Seattle Publlc Schools Southwest Athletic Complex on SW Thistle Street but he was much more than that.

To everyone who met him and knew him he represented dedication, care, genuine interest, and a positive attitude. Doree is the Lunchroom Manager at Denny International Middle School and would see Nino daily, often having lunch with him. 

After he passed, the words of both loss and praise flowed from every part of the community, culminating in a special memorial night during a Chief Sealth football game a week after his death.

Rainier Beach and West Seattle COVID test and vaccine sites transition to full-time vaccination hubs

Mayor Jenny A. Durkan today announced that the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) COVID-19 Community Testing and Vaccination Hubs will transition to vaccinations full-time beginning Wednesday, March 31. By transitioning to full-time vaccination hubs, Rainier Beach and West Seattle will be able to vaccinate an additional 3,000 people per week, each, adding approximately 6,000 vaccinations to the City’s total weekly capacity.

Family of Tommy Le, shot by police in 2017, settles with King County for $5 million

The family of Tommy Le, a 20-year-old  man who was shot and killed by a King County Sheriff's deputy in Burien in 2017 has settled with the County for $5 million.

The family's attorney, made the announcement at a news conference Wednesday morning. His family spoke about the settlement and the loss of Tommy at the conference. His father Hoai (also known as Sunny) said, "I want my son back," and explained, "We are still feeling the loss of my son every day."

Jeff Campiche the attorney said the Use of Force report never mentioned that Tommy was shot in the back, It never mentioned that he was not carrying a knife."
