Shooting near White Center wounds woman

At 8:48 PM on Sunday evening March 20,  King County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 10700 block of 14th Avenue SW. There, they found a female victim of a gun shot wound, who was transported to Harborview Medical Center.


Major Crimes detectives responded to the scene and are currently working on this open and active case. 
The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.

After two years of hibernation, The Whale Trail is ready for a new season! Join us to welcome Spring with special guests Rachel Aronson (Quiet Sound), researcher Mark Sears and Whale Trail Director Donna Sandstrom. Catch up on news about orcas and programs to protect them, and learn how you can help.


Rachel will introduce us to Quiet Sound, a new program to protect whales by reducing noise and disturbance from large vessel like tankers, container ships and ferries. Mark will share photos from recent field research, including encounters with southern resident orcas. Donna will recap news around The Whale Trail, including upcoming events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Springer's rescue!

Amazon announces partnership with Sound Transit, Mercy Housing Northwest for affordable homes in SeaTac

Amazon announced it would invest more than $42.5 million to build 318 affordable homes adjacent to public transit sites, including near Angle Lake Station here in SeaTac. 

In partnership with Sound Transit and Mercy Housing Northwest, Amazon is helping to create a minimum of 85 new construction affordable apartments located next to the light rail station  in SeaTac. 

The property will be constructed with high-quality sustainable construction materials and methods to ensure sustainability and energy efficiency—providing savings to residents while minimizing environmental impact. Amazon is funding a $16.7 million low-rate loan commitment and predevelopment grant to Mercy Housing Northwest.

Seattle Police detectives seek thieves targeting ATMs

A group of thieves have used trucks to smash their way inside Seattle businesses and steal cash from ATMs in at least a half-dozen cases. Detectives are now seeking assistance in identifying the suspects.

Cases involving the group of suspects date back to January, when they targeted businesses in the 100 block of Nickerson Street and the 800 block of Northwest 85th. The suspects damaged ATMs and stole cash, along with cigarettes and change, from businesses.

On January 31st, the suspects again struck businesses in the 2000 block of Northwest Market Street and 15thAvenue Northwest and Northwest 85th Street.

On February 20th, the suspects rammed a truck through the doors of a grocery store in the 7200 block of Greenwood Avenue and used a forklift to make off with an ATM.

SEA previews improvements ahead with C Concourse expansion

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) revealed today 30 percent design renderings of its next marquee capital improvement project. The C Concourse Expansion will elevate SEA, literally, by adding four additional floors above the existing building and raising the bar on the airport experience and sustainability.

HERBOLD: Water outage planned March 22/23 in South Delridge

District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold provided this notice of a planned water outage for South Delridge on March 22 and 23.

Between 9 p.m. on March 22 and 6 a.m. on March 23, SPU will be performing work on a water main in parts of Westwood, South Delridge and White Center. This will entail temporarily shutting off water access for residences between Barton and Roxbury between 15th and 26th, as well as some blocks to the south of Roxbury, some of which are in White Center (here’s a link to the Seattle City limits map in case you’re interested, where you can see a small segment between Roxbury and SW 98th is part of Seattle).

SDOT Installing traffic-monitoring cameras on the detour route and paving on Marine View Dr this weekend

Cameras are at intersections for monitoring traffic flow

On Saturday, we’re installing traffic monitoring cameras at the 2nd Ave SW and Highland Park Way SW intersection and the West Marginal Way SW and Highland Park Way SW intersection.

We’ll use these cameras to monitor how traffic is flowing on the detour routes so that we can make signal timing changes as needed. We’ll be doing this work from about 6 AM to 1 PM and don’t anticipate a detour or major impacts to people traveling.

On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be paving Marine View Dr between SW 104th St and SW 106th St. We’ll start this paving around 7:30 AM and expect to be done by 3:30 PM each day.
