SDOT - More Spokane St. Swing Bridge upgrades coming

Trail Spur beneath the West Seattle Bridge; Trail closed until April

Information from Seattle Department of Transportation

As part of our ongoing efforts to upgrade and repair the Spokane St Bridge (West Seattle Low Bridge), we will be installing a new communications line which connects the bridge control tower to the bridge's moving parts.

While this work occurs, we will temporarily close a trail spur that branches off the main West Seattle Bridge Trailway. The impact to people who bike, walk, or roll in the area will be minimal. Our project closure site will not affect the main trail over the Spokane St Bridge, or the primary bike route between West Seattle and Downtown used by most people on bikes. Instead, we will be closing a section of the trail that provides an optional loop around the foundation of the Spokane St Bridge used by some bikers.

We are placing a new communications line underneath the Duwamish River.

Jim Price death confirmed by family; Remains found a mile from home

Jim Price, 86, who went missing on Monday Sept. 18 has been confirmed as deceased in a note shared with family and supporters. He was the subject of an extensive months long search involving search parties and even canine and helicopter searches.

The family wrote:

To our Seattle and Vashon communities,

It’s with great sadness that we inform you of the discovery of Jim’s remains in the Duwamish greenbelt, a mile south of his home near the West Seattle bridge. He was found in a hard-to-reach area that was inaccessible for our searches.

We’d like to thank everyone who helped us look for Jim in the days and weeks after his disappearance and also those who continued to keep an eye out for him over the last few months. The outpouring of care and support from the community was invaluable in our time of need.

A memorial will be announced at a later date.

After some delays due to environmental concerns the well known finger piers at the Don Armeni Boat Ramp are being replaced.

The Army Corps of Engineers and National Marine Fisheries Service were confronted with several emergent priority projects (West Seattle Bridge) and regulatory changes which has slowed the permitting process. These agencies are now working through a large backlog of permit applications.
