A young Harbor Seal, in some distress, was rescued by the Seal Sitters and volunteers from the NOAA Marine Mammal Stranding Network on Sunday at the Don Armeni boat launch.

The seal, according one of the Seal Sitters, was "hiccuping" as it lay near the waters edge on the boat launch ramp and in obvious distress since it was spotted around 2:30pm.

It was gently collected and taken to the SeaLife Rescue Center, operated by SR3 (SeaLife Response, Rehabilitation, and Research) in Des Moines. It’s the Pacific Northwest’s only dedicated marine wildlife hospital.

An early morning motor vehicle incident at 48th Ave SW and Juneau Street SW. involved a driver in a late model Audi traveling southbound on 48th that ran into a parked black truck which was pushed into a white car parked in front of it. 

As an alternative north south route through West Seattle 48th SW, despite having speed humps, has grown to see more traffic and more cars traveling at excessive speed according to local residents. A traffic death near 48th and Graham earlier in the year involving speed is evidence that they are correct.

Residents of West Seattle are preparing for a major political demonstration this Saturday as the national “No Kings” protest movement schedules a rally in the West Seattle Junction, running from 11 am to 2 pm on October 18. This local event is part of a massive second wave of coordinated nationwide protests opposing what organizers call the erosion of democratic norms under President Donald Trump’s administration.

The “No Kings” movement, organized by progressive groups including Indivisible and MoveOn, began in 2025 and has rapidly grown into one of the largest single-day protest events in U.S. history, with the inaugural demonstration on June 14, 2025, drawing over 5 million participants across 2,100+ cities.

A Foundational Critique of Power

Easy Street Records in the West Seattle Junction is hosting northwest based music superstar Brandi Carlile Oct 24 for an in-store performance  to celebrate the release of her new album Returning to Myself . The performance is sold out.

People who purchased CD's or one of two special edition pink or white vinyl records were able to secure admission.

Easy Street will close to the public at 5PM to get ready for load-in and soundcheck.

People can start lining up outside on Alaska St whenever you’d like, but doors open shortly after 6PM.

These events typically draw a crowd outside.

At 12:28am on  Wednesday, a victim stated that he was selling rare coins in the area of 27 Ave SW/SW Cambridge St.

The victim stated that a van pulled up and he got inside the van to attempt to sell the coins. The victim stated that the van was occupied by two males, and one put a hard object to the back of his head.

The victim stated that a gun was implied but not seen.

The suspects struck the victim in the head with a hard object and stole his coins, clothes other personal items.

The suspects drove the victim to the 10000 BLK of 31 Ave SW and pushed him out of the van. The victim knocked on a community member’s door and 911 was called. Officers conducted an area search for the suspects and cameras.

Officers didn’t locate the suspects.  

Shortly before midnight on Wednesday night a Ford Bronco, traveling at apparently high speed, hitting two other vehicles before going on its side and and ending up in the front yard of home in the 5200 block of Beach Drive near Canada Drive SW.

The Morgan Community Association (MoCA) held its quarterly meeting on October 15, featuring updates on public safety, the long-delayed Morgan Junction Park expansion, and statements from Seattle City Council Position 9 candidates, current Councilmember Sarah Nelson and challenger Dionne Foster.

Public safety improves, but property crime remains dominant

The meeting opened with a public safety update from Matt Brown, Crime Prevention Coordinator for the Southwest Precinct, who shared encouraging statistics regarding the decline in reported crime in the area.

The West Seattle Junction Association invites the community to join in a vibrant Día de los Muertos / Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday, November 1 from 11 AM to 2 PM along Fauntleroy Way. We’ll transform the block into a colorful, festive space filled with music, art, remembrance, and local spirit.

This event is free and open to all — come walk the block, shop, create, and celebrate life and remembrance.
