Suspect arrested in brazen robbery of Menashe & Sons Jewelry; Items still missing

Bail set at $250,000 for both Menashe robbery and a robbery in Renton

A 29-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the two-million-dollar jewelry store robbery that occurred at Menashe & Sons Jewelry in West Seattle on August 14. The suspect, who police identified as a previously convicted felon, is currently being held on $250,000 bail at the Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA.

The individual was initially apprehended by the Renton Police Department (RPD) on October 16. The RPD arrested the man for involvement in multiple smash and grab robberies and additional weapons charges. As a convicted felon, the suspect is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Following the Renton arrest, Seattle Police Department (SPD) detectives and SPD’s lead robbery detective referred robbery charges to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (KCPO) on October 18. These charges relate to the suspect’s alleged involvement in the brazen smash & grab.

Update: Outages persist: Now down to 574 across the area

The restoration process is continuing with the total number without power down to 574.

City light crews were busy overnight and throughout Sunday morning as they worked to restore power. At 2:30 pockets of outages remained across the area. 

Update 8:30am 

A total of 5,754 City Light customers remained without power on Sunday morning. Stretching from North Seattle to the south end with a variety of restoration times.

More than 4200 homes were without power from Salmon Creek Ravine to Beverly Park as the high winds continued. Restoration was expected after 3am.

Junction Harvest Festival was a blast of Autumn fun

The West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival concluded its lively celebration on Sunday Oct. 26, having filled the neighborhood streets with music, high-energy performances, and competitive cuisine.

The festive atmosphere began immediately with the Costume Parade. The procession was led in style by the West Seattle High School Marching Band and provided the perfect kick-off to the day. Participants lined up in their festive attire and joined the parade as it wound through the Junction, successfully filling the streets with music, color, and community pride.

I lived in Augusta, Georgia with my family for 8 years when Ric was a professor at the Allied Health department of Georgia Medical College. 

Balking at a full time teaching assignment after I taught full time the previous18 years, I signed up for NEA sponsored artist–in–residence programs with both Georgia and S.Carolina. I figured that with the half day studio/teaching set up of residencIes, I would have more time to paint and get my work into galleries in Atlanta.

The first year of this residency work put 20,000 miles on my brand new pickup. I had a lot of driving and thinking to do when I would go to towns all over the two states. I got to know a lot of wonderful Southerners, 
hardworking teachers and polite (mostly) kids.

Kennedy Catholic clobbers Kentridge

Kennedy Catholic clobbered Kentridge in a game played Saturday afternoon at French Field in Kent with by a lopsided score. Kennedy 74, Kentridge 6.

The Lancers ran their first place North Puget Sound League Class 4A division leading record to 6-0 and their overall mark to 6-2 with the win.

Kennedy wraps up its season with a 1 p.m. Saturday home game against Mount Rainier at Highline Memorial.

Mount Rainier stands at 3-3 in division play and 5-3 overall following its 45-40 victory over Auburn on Thursday.

Northwest Seaport Alliance reports severe, prolonged decline in trade volumes

Tariffs a big factor but not the only one

The Northwest Seaport Alliance (NWSA), which manages the ports of Seattle and Tacoma, reported its seventh consecutive week of depressed metrics year over year for the period ending October 10, 2025. Weekly data released by the NWSA highlights sharp drops across critical trade indicators when compared to figures from October 2024.

While many metrics were stagnant compared to the previous week, the ongoing year-over-year declines underscore persistent challenges impacting port activity.

The severity of the volume drop is clearly evident in the comparison to the October 2024 weekly average.
