Quail Park honors veterans at special celebration

Quail Park of West Seattle honored its veteran residents with a special Veteran’s Day Celebration on November 11th. Veterans who live in the community were recognized for their service and enjoyed performances by local musicians Jeff Brewer and Dave Harmonson. 


Quail Park of West Seattle is home to a U.S. Navy veteran, an Army Reserve veteran, and a retired police captain—as well as Executive Director Brian Anderson, who served in the Army. 


“We’re deeply grateful to the veterans who call Quail Park home,” said Anderson. “Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to others continue to inspire our community and remind us what true service looks like.”

Detectives seeking witnesses to a fatal Hit And Run near Myers Way on 509

Information from the Washington State Patrol

King County: Last night, September 13, 2025, at approximately 11:40pm, Washington State Patrol (WSP) communications received 9-1-1 calls reporting a serious collision SB SR 509 near Meyers Way.

Once troopers arrived, they determined this was a two car, one motorcycle collision and the motorcycle rider was unfortunately deceased.

Further details revealed that a white passenger car was driving erratically and struck the motorcycle dislodging the rider. A gray vehicle subsequently struck the motorcycle. The causing vehicle fled the scene exiting to Meyers Way.

Parts from the suspect vehicle were left at the scene. It appears that the bumper of this vehicle was metallic blue painted white. The vehicle will have front and rear end damage.

Grand windows frame morning light and fall leaves as Café Verde’s owner, K.C.  pours a horchata for one of his neighbors. “This is great! A long time coming! I was rooting for you,” a woman running out the door to catch a bus says as she leaves. “You’ve been patient with us!” K.C. responds as he and his wife, Tatiana, turn back to the line of customers, most of whom are from the neighborhood. “The community has been really amazingly welcoming to us. I’m really surprised how many people are walking in. I didn’t expect that,” K.C. says. He estimates that 90% of the café’s visitors live within walking distance and “Only about 10% will be stopping in their cars… I kind of expected it to be reversed.”

West Seattle and Chief Sealth dominate Sound Division in 2025 All Metro Football Honors

The 2025 All Metro League football awards, announced on November 12, 2025, confirmed the dominant performance of West Seattle High School and highlighted significant achievements from Chief Sealth High School within the Sound Division. West Seattle emerged as the Sound Division powerhouse, sweeping top honors and leading selections across the All-League teams.

West Seattle Sweeps Top Individual and Coaching Awards

The Wildcats secured the league’s most prestigious individual honors, demonstrating excellence on both sides of the ball. Senior quarterback LJ Moody capped off a stellar season by being named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Sound Division. Joining him was junior Desmond Parkinson, who took home the Offensive MVP award.

Chief Sealth teams place at state meet

Chief Sealth scored a 10th place finish on the girls side and a 15th place finish on the boys side in the state Class 2A cross country team competition Saturday at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Ballard, meanwhile, raced to an 11th place finish in the Class 3A girls ranks.

The Beavers actually had the best score among the trio of local teams with only 270 points.

Chief Sealth had a girls score of 285 and a boys score of 353.

Cassidy Armstrong of Ballard had the top area finish, taking second in the 3A girls race in a time of 17 minutes, 51.10 seconds.

Beavers teammate Ciana Johnson came in eighth in 18:40.80.

The next finisher for the team was a distant 79th by Audrey Hartman in 20:31.50.

Update November 12

New unofficial election results released today show a definitive shift in the Seattle Mayor’s race, confirming a victory for challenger Katie Wilson. The results, updated as of November 12, reflect the counting of additional ballots across King County, where total ballots processed now stand at 652,689, marking a 45.21% turnout among the 1,443,842 registered voters.

The updated figures reveal a dramatic reversal of the earlier trend which saw incumbent Bruce Harrell maintaining a lead.

Seattle Mayor's Race Determined

Katie Wilson has successfully surpassed Bruce Harrell in the latest count, concluding a closely watched race that tightened significantly in the days following Election Day.

In the City of Seattle, 279,525 ballots have now been counted, representing a 55.31% turnout of the 505,393 registered voters.

The Menashe Lights will be back soon, even bigger, brighter and more fun

For the Menashe family, the onset of winter means transforming their residence into one of West Seattle's most beloved holiday destinations. The annual Christmas lights display, located at 5605 Beach Drive SW, is a dazzling spectacle cherished by the community.

The family begins preparing for the seasonal transformation around the 23rd of November. The grand illumination officially begins on December 1st, when they start turning on the lights nightly. 

The display runs through the end of the month, with the lights glowing nightly from 4:30 PM to 11:00 PM.

The West Seattle American Cancer Society Discovery Shop, located at 4535 California Ave SW, is marking a significant milestone, celebrating its 35th anniversary as a local thrift boutique dedicated to the mission of ending cancer. West Seattle’s Admiral Pub delivers community warmth, free feast, and jazz energy this Thanksgiving

For many West Seattle residents, Thanksgiving Day has a beloved tradition that extends beyond the family table: the complimentary Friendsgiving spread offered annually by the Admiral Pub. This year, pub owners Billy Conwell and Alex Garcia are expanding their generous community effort by hosting a free concert featuring the talented local jazz duo Reis & Cates.
