Seattle residents invited to shape future officers through 'Before the Badge' dialogues

The Seattle Police Department is calling on community members to help train its newest recruits through the Before the Badge (BTB) Community-Police Dialogues. These upcoming discussions are a foundational element of the SPD’s Before the Badge training program, a mandatory curriculum that all new recruits must complete prior to entering the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy.

The program is designed to provide a platform for residents to engage directly with recruits before they begin their formal police academy training. The primary goal of these dialogues is to allow the public to share exactly what they would like to see in new officers and to help recruits gain a firsthand understanding of community concerns at the precinct and neighborhood levels.

West Seattle Nursery hit by burglary on Christmas Day

West Seattle Nursery at 5275 California Ave SW, reports that they were robbed early Christmas morning.

In a statement released on social media they said:

“We've repaired our back gate, cleaned up glass from the two doors that were forced open (one to our Garden Center and one to our Greenhouse), and secured the damaged doors with bolted wood. Please excuse the slight draft until we are able to replace our doors.

We're still taking inventory to determine everything that was stolen”,

The burglar took “all our jewelry, some tools, a laptop, our walkie talkies, and even a garbage can used to carry items away.”

If you have any information on who the person in the picture is, please contact the nursery at 206-935-9276

They were masked, but they appear to have long dark hair and black Adidas Samba shoes.

Uptown Espresso Delridge location closing Jan. 1

The Delridge location of Uptown Espresso is closing forever Jan. 1. Westside Seattle reached out to their management and they've responded with this letter:

It is unfortunate that our Delridge location is closing, and it saddens us deeply.  We wanted to inform the community that our Delridge location will be closing effective January 1.

Over the past several years, the building was expected to be purchased by Sound Transit.  As often is the case at the last minute, Sound Transit withdrew its offer to purchase the complex. As a result of the anticipated sale, no improvements were made during that time, and the building has since fallen into disrepair. Ultimately, this has made the center less appealing and increasingly challenging for customers to visit.

Jennifer's View: Lil' Red and Merry Christmas

By Jennifer Carrasco

No, the raccoons did not steal my Lil’ Red.

After I got it all fixed up with a new radiator, etc, I decided it was time to sell it. I mentioned it to Cameron at C&P and she connected me with this wonderful family who needed a pickup for their teenage boys.

I was so tickled, and the boys, looking offhand boy cool, were thrilled as well. (I raised a son and I knew the signs)
