Masked thieves steal BB guns from Big 5 in Westwood Village

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

#2025-360795/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch/F2

At 7:41pm on Tuesday, two males who used masks, hoodies, and beanies to conceal their identities entered Big 5 Sporting Goods at Westwood Village while armed with a knife, a crowbar, and a window breaker.

They shattered a display case holding BB and pellet guns and then stole six BB pistols and two BB double barrel shotguns, which they loaded into a suitcase before they fled the store on foot.

Weather conditions and time delay made a K-9 track impractical.

Please join us for our Winter Gathering as we celebrate orca researcher Mark Sears and his 50 years of contributions to our understanding of orcas and other whales in central Puget Sound.

Mark has been a participant in and witness to the history and evolution of orca research in this region. His career as an orca researcher began in 1976, when he participated in the first Orca Survey following the last capture of orcas in Puget Sound. Over the past five decades he's documented the presence and behaviors of whales in central Puget Sound, often assisted by his daughter Maya. In 1998, Mark was the first researcher to spot Tahlequah (J35) shortly after she was born, and given the opportunity to name her.

Sound Transit Committee votes to study fare gates, divided on fate of downtown tunnel

Decision on compensation package for CEO Constantine deferred at his request

The Sound Transit Executive Committee meeting on December 11, 2025, tackled several high-stakes financial and infrastructure issues, approving a study for fare gate implementation while remaining highly divided on whether to proceed with plans for a second downtown Seattle tunnel for the Ballard Link extension. Additionally, the committee awarded CEO Dow Constantine an “outstanding” performance rating but deferred action on his compensation.

Fare Gate Retrofit Study Moves Forward

Facing a current fare compliance rate of 61%, down from 85% in 2019, the Executive Committee approved a motion directing staff to conduct a fare gate retrofit implementation study and develop a pilot proposal. Staff noted that the current low compliance rate resulted in approximately $15 million in unrealized revenue last year, a figure that could climb to about $30 million annually as ridership grows toward ST2 completion.

Pat's View: The Hidden Cost of "Free Trials"

Why subscription scams are draining American wallets

I admit it. I'm sometimes quite gullible. I purchased a product called Capsacare from a company called Bare Willow but didn't read the fine print. When I got the the product.. it was essentially useless. Oh well. But imagine my surprise when I got an email that the SECOND shipment was on its way and that the price had gone up by $14!

Deceptive subscription offers, often termed “scamscriptions,” have evolved into one of the most widespread online frauds facing consumers today, affecting approximately 1 in 10 Americans. This is not a marginal problem; it is a staggering financial drain that costs U.S. consumers an average of $1,200 annually in unwanted or forgotten subscriptions alone.
