Pat's View: The Menashe family, an appreciation

By Patrick Robinson

We were kindly invited to go to the home of Jack and Linda Menashe last weekend and while the famous Christmas lights display is amazing, we were witness to something far more impressive.

That night they were giving out popcorn and hot chocolate, Santa (Jimmy Jacobsen in the suit) was there to hear Christmas wishes, two amazing reindeer were there too and kids lined up in the hundreds with parents, grandparents, friends, and relatives to just be part of it all. It was a calm night, no rain and even though people were slowed down on the road, an atmosphere of kindness and care seemed to be in the air.

Josh Menashe, an astonishing blur of energy, smiles and warmth was the Impressario who coordinated the display and the events of the evening.

He had told me that Jack and Linda had specifically asked that my wife Kim and I come inside the house and what we saw was unforgettable.

Traffic was tight as people streamed in from where they parked blocks away to take in the sight, meet St. Nick and see his two faithful flying friends.

Organized by Josh Menashe, the event saw kids of all ages in awe of the amazing variety of lights, characters, trains, and much more. 140,000 lights of all types go up around the house in late November.

Giant crane draws interest on Harbor Ave.

A massive new arrival has shifted the skyline in West Seattle, as the Pacific Titan, the largest floating shear-leg crane now stationed on the U.S. West Coast, was spotted moored just south of Salty’s on Alki this week. Homeported in the Pacific Northwest, the specialized vessel brings an unprecedented level of heavy-lift capacity to the region, establishing a new benchmark for construction and maritime support,.Owned and operated by Stor Kran LLC, the Pacific Titan possesses an astounding 2,000 tons of lifting power via its main hoist, coupled with a towering 330-foot boom,,. This capability significantly reduces reliance on East Coast and overseas assets for major regional projects. The vessel itself measures 400 feet by 100 feet, complete with stabilizing sponsons, making it a prominent sight along the coastline.

Masked thieves steal BB guns from Big 5 in Westwood Village

Information from Seattle Police Blotter

#2025-360795/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch/F2

At 7:41pm on Tuesday, two males who used masks, hoodies, and beanies to conceal their identities entered Big 5 Sporting Goods at Westwood Village while armed with a knife, a crowbar, and a window breaker.

They shattered a display case holding BB and pellet guns and then stole six BB pistols and two BB double barrel shotguns, which they loaded into a suitcase before they fled the store on foot.

Weather conditions and time delay made a K-9 track impractical.

SOLD OUT: The Whale Trail Winter Gathering 2025: Celebrating 50 Years of Puget Sound Orca Research with Mark Sears and Maya Sears

Please join us for our Winter Gathering as we celebrate orca researcher Mark Sears and his 50 years of contributions to our understanding of orcas and other whales in central Puget Sound.

Mark has been a participant in and witness to the history and evolution of orca research in this region. His career as an orca researcher began in 1976, when he participated in the first Orca Survey following the last capture of orcas in Puget Sound. Over the past five decades he's documented the presence and behaviors of whales in central Puget Sound, often assisted by his daughter Maya. In 1998, Mark was the first researcher to spot Tahlequah (J35) shortly after she was born, and given the opportunity to name her.
