Kennedy Catholic snags third place in Class 4A

By Tim Clinton

SPORTS EDITOR

Washington's third place Class 4A girls basketball state trophy is firmly in the hands of the Kennedy Catholic Lancers after they put away Lake Washington by a 56-51 score Saturday.

The team from Burien finished with a 3-1 record to show for the tournament played at the Tacoma Dome.

It was a successful ending to a successful season for the Lancers.

"When we started, we had seniors and a bunch of juniors," said Kennedy Catholic head coach Michael Brooks earlier in the tournament.  "We had to learn how to love each other.  Our ability to care for each other has really grown."

The Lancers trailed the Kangaroos by a 39-33 score with 1:12 to play in the third quarter Saturday, but closed the gap to 39-38 by the end of the period.

Jayden Fitzgerald drew a foul while making a basket with 59.6 seconds to go and iced her free throws.

School of Rock West Seattle reclaims the stage: Grand re-opening marks triumphant return after rebuild

The music has officially returned to the West Seattle Junction. On March 7th, 2026, School of Rock West Seattle (SORWS) hosted a grand re-opening celebration from noon to 3 pm, marking the end of a long silence that began in October 2025. The facility, located at 4701 41st Ave SW, was forced to undergo a complete rebuild following a devastating water leak from the CVS pharmacy located directly above it. Ironically, just prior to the reopening a new leak was found but it was quickly resolved.

Stop the Steal: Why your digital identity is at risk and how to fight back

By Liz Steen

Imagine waking up to find that someone has taken over your entire digital life. They didn’t steal your wallet from your pocket, but they stole the "key" to your online world.

Digital identity theft is a widespread crime that can hurt both people and big businesses. Right now, many of us are using outdated ways to stay safe, and it is time for a change .

The Problem: Passwords Are Not Enough

For a long time, we thought a strong password and a text message code (SMS) were enough to keep hackers out. However, experts now say these traditional methods are no longer sufficient because of new AI-driven attacks . Hackers are getting very good at using AI to trick people and steal their login information . They also use "consent attacks," where they trick you into clicking "Allow" on a fake app that then steals your data .

Davis derailed Kennedy Catholic's state championship dreams Friday by a 57-38 score in a Class 4A girls basketball semifinal at the Tacoma Dome.

The Lancers of Burien head south for a fourth consecutive day Saturday, playing in the game for third and fifth place at 11:15 a.m.

Davis, which came in as the No. 1 seed at state, wasted no time in taking the lead for good Friday, jumping out to a 4-0 advantage and never trailing.

Jayden Fitzgerald put the Lancers on the scoreboard by stepping underneath for a basketball with 5:49 to play in the first quarter, but Davis answered right away to make it a 6-2 game.

Fitzgerald cut the lead to 6-4 with a pair of free throws at 3:46, then answered a Davis 3-point basket with a trey of her own to make it 9-7.

The Pirates took a 13-7 lead by the end of the first quarter and widened it to 16-7 early in the second quarter.
