Baptism of fists
On Sept. 7 Southwest Precinct officers we called to the South Park Community Center shortly before midnight because a “large baptism” with “abundant alcohol served inside” turned ugly as several reverent revelers began throwing fists at each other. Things got even more out of hand when police arrived as, according to SPD, responding officers were “set upon by the crowd” and found themselves fighting as well. A massive police response ensued, including King County Sheriff’s deputies, and two suspects were ultimately arrested and booked for assault.
Tense moment at Westwood
Police responded to a call of a man wielding a crossbow at the Westwood Village shopping center just before 5 p.m. on Aug. 31. With rifles trained on the suspect, officers demanded the man put his weapon down and surrender, which he did after some convincing. With his crossbow were two arrows, including one with a razor steel hunting tip. After talking with the man police determined he was suffering from mental health issues. They placed him in four-point restraints before taking him to Harborview for involuntary commitment.
On the wrong track
Police believe the same teenager is responsible for yet another strong-arm robbery, her fourth since April of 2013. On Sept. 2 another teen was walking along a path near Westwood Village with her brother after their father gave them the OK to go hang out in the waning days before school started again. As they walked in the wooded area they were approached by three boys and one girl. The girl ran up on the sister and pounced, punching and kicking her several times before demanding she hand over her backpack. The victim, sensing trouble when they saw the four, had already thrown her backpack under a footbridge. Meanwhile, two male suspects held the victim’s brother so he could only watch while a third found the backpack and rummaged through it. At one point, someone (unclear due to redactions on the report) pleaded with the female aggressor to stop “or she was going to start a gang war.” A man walking along the path interrupted the robbery and the suspects fled. Once police arrived they were able to pinpoint their suspect as the same girl allegedly responsible for three prior strong-armed robberies. At the time this report was filed, an arrest had not been made.
Stature leads to arrest
A man seen prowling through several backyards in West Seattle’s Arbor Heights neighborhood on Sept. 2 was a pretty easy target for police as complainants calling in said the suspect stood at a towering 6 feet 6 inches tall. Although the suspect apparently took off his shirt in an attempt to change his appearance, it appears one’s height does not change with wardrobe swaps. Police apprehended him in a backyard on the 10000 block of 35th Ave. S.W. He had several pieces of allegedly stolen jewelry on his person, and police gave him a ride to the King County Jail for booking on burglary charges.
