Marjorie (Margie) McMurray 1920 ~ 2016

Marjorie (Margie) McMurray passed away peacefully on March 16, 2016, two days before what would have been her 96th birthday. Marjorie is survived by her husband, Sandy McMurray; children, Patti Pierson and Scott McMurray; grandchildren, Christine Fankhauser (husband Brad) and Brian Pierson; and great grandchildren, Cole, Ella and Erin Fankhauser. Marjorie was preceded in death by her oldest son Michael in 2012. One of Marjorie’s greatest accomplishments was the loving and closely knit family she nurtured as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Marjorie graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City where she spoke as class valedictorian and the University of Utah where she majored in education. After graduating from the University, Marjorie became an elementary school teacher in Salt Lake City. Later, with an adventurous spirit, Marjorie moved to Seattle and was hired by United Airlines, first as a passenger agent and then as a flight stewardess. It was on one of Marjorie’s DC-3 flights as a stewardess where she met the love of her life, a young United Airlines co-pilot named Sandy McMurray. Marjorie and Sandy married within two months after meeting and were married for 68 years.

With their shared interest in air travel and international destinations, Marjorie and Sandy enjoyed traveling to cities around the world. Many good times were also shared by family and friends as Sandy piloted a small family owned airplane for day trips around the San Juan Islands and other scenic Pacific Northwest locations. After the plane landed at a chosen destination, Marjorie would often delight family and friends with a delicious picnic lunch she had prepared.

Marjorie’s beautiful smile and kind and gracious spirit will continue to be a cherished memory for her family.
