DERRY LEROY SMITH 1935 ~ 2016

Derry Leroy Smith “Smitty”, age 81, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease. Derry was born in Bow, Washington on May 16, 1935, the youngest of 6 children to Roy and Lila Smith. He graduated from Burlington Edison High school class of 1953. Derry served 2 years in the US Army, 1953 - 1955, with the occupational troops in Europe and was assigned to the combat engineers near Fulda, West Germany.

Derry moved to Seattle in 1967 when he began working for Lynden Transport, driving semi-trucks where he retired in 1997 with 30+ years of safe driving. Derry married Mary Manning in 1997 and made their home in West Seattle for the past 20 years where they worked daily, side by side, at the Chelan Café restaurant. Derry leaves behind his wife Mary, sons Dennis (Terry) Ingwaldson, Donley (Judy) Ingwaldson, Dick Ingwaldson, Terry (Marci) Belcoe, Scott (Tanya) Manning; daughters Delpha Johnson and Deborah Frankele, along with 43 grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews; countless friends and relatives.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Smith Brothers & Sandra Team, walk to end Alzheimer’s. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 from 3-6 PM at the Chelan Café.
