Green Seattle Day is Nov. 3: sign up in advance to volunteer at park sites across Seattle

Have a hand in planting Seattle’s future forests! Join Seattle Parks and Recreation on Saturday, Nov. 3 and help the Green Seattle Partnership kick off their planting season. Hundreds of volunteers will be planting thousands of plants in parks throughout Seattle. All community members are welcome, and no experience in necessary. Events begin at 9 a.m. and are family friendly and open to all ages. Tools, gloves, plants, coffee, snacks and instruction will be provided.

"Can Jam" will benefit Ballard Food Bank Nov. 15

Open House at Fraternity of the Eagles—Ballard

On November 15th 2018 the Salmon Bay Eagles are hosting an evening of music called the "Can Jam" to benefit the Ballard Food Bank. The event will run from 7pm to midnight. Blue 55, Hot Mess, and Danny & the Good Intentions will be preforming a 75-minute set each. Dancers are welcome and encouraged to attend! The event is open to the public, with a cost of $10, or 10 cans of food. Cash donations can be made at the event, or through the Eagles organization.

The Salmon Bay Eagles club is located at 5216 20th Ave NW in Ballard.

The end of an era; Phoenecia Restaurant on Alki to close

One of West Seattle's most well known, and celebrated restaurants, The Phoenecia on Alki is set to close Dec. 24. The Khazaal family said in an open letter to the community that they would like to find another West Seattle location, preferably near the Junction but for now, developers have said their home for the past 25 years must be vacated. They shared their feelings and some special deals as part of their departure in a letter to the community below.

Dear West Seattle Community,

After 25 amazing years on Alki, the Phoenecia family is deeply sad to announce that we must soon close our doors. Our landlords have decided to sell the building to developers, due to some very expensive but necessary building upgrades.

Rather than dwell on sadness, we have chosen to revel in gratitude for the last 25 years of support from our many friends in West Seattle and beyond.

Arts in Parks: Mobile Incubator to visit five Seattle park locations

During the month of November, community members might notice a bright orange 1957 Shasta camper trailer in their neighborhood park. The Mobile Incubator is a mobile office where artists, designers, performers, writers and other cultural entrepreneurs can come to seek business advice for their creative ventures.
