Scott's View: Resolutions for the challenged

By Scott Anthony

So how did you do on your New Year’s Resolutions this year? Did you lose any weight? Did you kick that smoking habit and were you nicer to other people? If you are anything like me, the answer to those questions is not a resounding yes, but a mitigated result riddled with qualifications, explanations and down-right excuses. I didn’t lose any weight this year like I’d hoped - (gained eight pounds) - I was not much nicer to other motorists and I haven’t done enough exercise. I guess I should get an ‘F’ on my resolution report card (I think the ‘F’ should stand for futile) but I have a new idea for the new year.

Instead of fretting about my own failings or pondering ways to improve myself, this coming year I’m going to work on things that affect not just me, but everyone. Here’s my list, not in order of importance, because it’s all equally important and I will follow each with My Vow.

Target store at Westwood Village to get a "refresh" remodel soon

The Target store at Westwood Village is set to undergo a remodeling "refresh" according to store Director Ian Valentine. The store last saw an update in 2011 when the "P-Fresh" grocery addition was added to the location.

Since then, they also added a Starbucks in-store outlet.

The customer service area will move, the bathrooms will be updated and expanded and some of the store layout will change but if you are familiar with the updates made last year to the Tukwila store, these changes will not be as extensive according to Valentine.

Preliminary work has already begun with areas being measured and plans being formulated. Work is expected to begin in the next 90 days.

Here comes the cold- Snow and low temps forecast for next week

Residents and businesses are responsible for keeping sidewalks clear

The weather is about to get a lot more wintry if the National Weather service is on target.  Since we live in a city built on hills getting your car, home, clothing and supplies ready are important. The forecast calls for lows in the low 20's and a few inches of snow accumulating most days next week.

Additionally, residents and businesses are responsible for keeping sidewalks clear. The Seattle Department of Transportation and Rooted in Rights teamed up to create a video highlighting the need for everyone to have the ability to get around.

Handgun and narcotics seized in arrest of man slumped over in running vehicle

information from the Seattle Police Blotter

Officers arrested a 23-year-old man and recovered a handgun and small amounts of narcotics Tuesday after they found a man slumped over in running vehicle in West Seattle alleyway.

Shortly after 2:30 PM, police responded to a report of a man slumped over in running white, orange, and black Honda Civic, which was blaring loud music, in the 6900 block of 37th Avenue Southwest.

When officers arrived, they peered through the car’s tinted windows and saw a man slumped over in the driver’s seat of the running vehicle, and noticed a pistol protruding from in between the car’s front passenger seat and console.

Officers unsuccessfully attempted to rouse the driver, and found the car’s doors were locked, so they broke out the vehicle’s passenger-side window. The driver eventually woke up and was ordered to exit his car. As he did so, a baggie of narcotics fell from his lap onto the ground.

Snow in the forecast; Might be a good time to get ready

National and local weather forcasters are saying snow is in the forecast, minimally this week but more likely on Sunday and Monday so word to the wise, if you need to get snow tires, studded tires, ice melt or chains this would be a good time to get that on short term schedule.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the low 30's next week (or even lower into the 20's overnight) along with some moisture which is of course the recipe for Puget Sound Convergence zone lowland snow.

They say:

Sunday Night

A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.

Monday

A chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 33.

Monday Night

A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25.

Tuesday

A slight chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 29.

Tuesday Night
