The water temperature in Puget Sound today is 60.8°F.
The average water temperature in Puget Sound in winter reaches 46.4°F, in spring 48.2°F, in summer the average temperature rises to 57.2°F, and in autumn it is 53.6°F.
So diving in can be a shock. If you are boating use Coast Guard approved floatation devices and life preservers.
The City of Seattle will be opening more than 30 “cooling centers” including senior centers, community centers, libraries, day/hygiene, and an emergency shelter in addition to beaches, pools, spray parks, and wading pools. All locations and hours of operation vary. Temperatures across Seattle metro area are forecast to reach the mid-100’s by Monday, a record-breaking day.

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has secured new grant through the INFRA grant program in the amount of $11,250,000 to help fund the repair and rehabilitation of the West Seattle High Rise Bridge. The Seattle Department of Transportation applied for the grant in March and this is roughly half of the $21.6 million they requested.
To completely repair the bride SDOT has budgeted $175 million. They've hired Kraemer North America to handle the remaining work of installing post-tension steel cabling inside the hollow girders and perform other strengthening and reinforcing work. The Low Swing Bridge is also due to see just over $11 million in repairs and reinforcement work over the next year.
SDOT has said the bridge will reopen in Summer of 2022.
District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold offered this update via her newsletter to constituents:
On June 3, both WSOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved the West Seattle Bridge repair NEPA submittal. It is a major West Seattle Bridge repair benchmark and delivered well in advance of when it was anticipated.
SDOT submitted the signed National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) form in late May. This NEPA approval helps keep the project on schedule. SDOT reported earlier this month that repairs are on schedule to be completed by mid-June 2022.
The Highland Park Improvement Club (HPIC) at 1115 SW Holden suffered a major fire early Friday morning and is now closed was shuttered after a fire early Friday. Damage estimated at $200.000. Cause undetermined.
The club does have insurance and adjusters have been in touch.

We currently have a team of amazing folk securing the building from the significant damage. FOR YOUR SAFETY PLEASE DO NOT COME ON THE PROPERTY. We know that you are all feeling this loss with us. Currently the parameter is not a place we want people to be unattended.
At this point the cause of the fire remains undetermined, and we are still waiting on final clearance from the fire department on the safety of the interior.
