SDOT: 60 new speed humps installed to increase safety in neighborhoods along West Seattle Bridge detour

information from the Seattle Department of Transportation

We installed 60 new speed humps in Highland Park, Georgetown, and South Park to increase safety for people walking, rolling, biking, and playing in these neighborhoods.

Since the West Seattle High-Rise Bridge closed in March 2020, the neighborhoods of South Park, Highland Park and Georgetown have experienced a large increase in detour traffic. We’re committed to improving safety along these routes and created a Reconnect West Seattle Home Zone for each of these neighborhoods, engaging with nearly 1,000 community members on projects that would improve safety and mobility.

New Top Hat Produce & Craft Market is growing-and bringing locally sourced even closer to White Center.

Farm fresh produce and hand made goods in Top Hat on Wednesdays

By Ruby Tuesday Romero

I’ve often wondered what a farmers market could do for the White Center neighborhood.

Markets open the floodgates of community, offering a weekly home to local farmers and creatives who otherwise may not have the platform to do so. At these trade posts, I have found the best tasting fruit and other products that provide encouragement to eat healthy every day. Naturally, I was excited to hear about a new opportunity to get farm fresh produce.

Pat's View: Freedom vs Anarchy

By Patrick Robinson

The pandemic laid bare many things. From the fragility of our supply chain for everything from pork ribs to computer chips.

But it also revealed some of the coarser aspects of human nature.

You’ve probably seen it yourself. The people speeding on a residential street. Others seemingly oblivious to the danger they pose to themselves and others as they jabber on a phone, pressed to their ear as they power a 4000 pound chunk of metal, glass and plastic around.

People screaming at checkers in grocery stores about being asked to wear a mask.

The withdrawal into online camps by people of different beliefs, who then reassure themselves of their superiority with every echo in the chamber.

To me, it comes down to some simple ideas. Your rights end where mine begin. This can get murky of course (think of the tortured explanations for why we should only read the second half of the second amendment.
