By Jennifer Carrasco

First, came the Hags. Those chittering crones, one on each shoulder, who needled and whined. "Jennifer, you have too much stuff. Cull and Discard. Cull and Discard"

Pat's View: What does AI say about a few future trends?

I've always been interested in future technology, a trait I share with my father whose life reflected his pursuit of a competitive edge in business by being ahead of the curve. So in that spirit I thought it might be interesting to ask AI to provide a forecast on a series of trends that appear to be converging to create changes that by anyone's measure, we are not prepared for. AI has taken a great deal of criticism of course for not being completely accurate so, take these with the proverbial grain of salt. Still, the sources called on are not unreliable and the forecasts are not completely wild. What I did was ask this question.

Given the current pace of technological change in everything from the construction of massive datacenters for AI, the development of quantum computing, the dropping reliance on the dollar as the world's reserve currency, the rise of molten salt nuclear reactors, what changes will these developments have and when?

Eva Tsalaky Costacos

March 22, 1930 - July 13, 2025

Eva Costacos was a beloved wife, mother, yia yia, godmother, koumbara, thea, friend, and neighbor. Though she was a mother of three, she was a second mother to countless others, always being there to talk, listen, and offer both encouragement and compliments to everyone she knew. She loved bright colors in all things, but was also a source of bright colorful light herself.

West Seattle Grand Parade was full of sunny dispositions

On a cloudy July 19, the West Seattle Grand Parade, with more than 75 entries showed off a raft of smiles and pirate's bounty of good cheer as it wended its way down California Ave.

Thieves attempted a break in at West Seattle Arcade

Criminals attempted to break in to the West Seattle Arcade early Saturday morning at 4:20am.

Owners Matt and Elyssa Cichy said, "Three men pulled up in a grey Hyundai with no plates, and attempted to pry open our door and pick our lock. They were unsuccessful and scared off by people that were out and about. Our wonderful neighbor saw the attempt and called the police and then notified us.

In addition to the attempted break-in at West Seattle Arcade, Alki Beach has seen a few notable incidents recently:

  • Armed Robbery: On July 15 around 10:45 p.m., two people were held at gunpoint near 61st Avenue SW and Alki Avenue SW. The suspects stole a wallet and phone before fleeing in a sedan. Police believe the same suspects may have committed another robbery earlier that night in North Seattle.
