Thunder over the lake: The Blue Angels return to Seattle for Seafair 2026

The unmistakable roar of jet engines is set to return to the Pacific Northwest as the U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline the Boeing Seafair Air Show over Lake Washington. From July 31 to August 2, 2026, Seattle’s skyline will serve as the backdrop for one of the most anticipated aerial displays in the country, continuing a cherished summer tradition.

A Weekend of High-Speed Spectacle

While the official festival kicks off on Friday, enthusiasts can get an early glimpse of the action on Thursday, July 30. The Blue Angels are scheduled for two practice runs that day: the first from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and a second session from 3:30 PM to 4:40 PM.

Expanding the colony: Woodland Park Zoo welcomes its newest Humboldt Penguin chick

Woodland Park Zoo is proud to share the news of a successful Humboldt penguin hatching. The new arrival is the first chick for parents Merlin and Tucker, who were paired following a recommendation from the Humboldt Penguin Species Survival Plan, a cooperative program that ensures accredited zoos maintain healthy, self-sustaining populations of this vulnerable species.

After an incubation period of 39 to 41 days, during which both parents shared duties, the chick is now being cared for in a nesting burrow. To ensure she reaches her growth milestones with minimal disturbance, zoo staff are conducting routine weigh-ins. While she currently remains in the burrow, she is expected to join the rest of the 34-member colony in their outdoor habitat later this summer. Click here for photos of the new hatchling.

Ballard FC falls in final

Ballard FC fell short against the Ventura County Fusion team from Southern California by a 2-1 score Friday in the Western Conference final for men's division two soccer.

Ventura County rides the victory at Atwood Stadium in Flint, Mich. into national semifinal action Sunday.

Ballard beat Ventura County by an identical 2-1 score in the same game last year on its way to taking second in the nation.

The Salmon Bay women's team from Ballard just won a national championship against the Vermont Green team last Saturday.

After playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and overtime play it won a shootout, 5-4.

West Seattle to play for state title

West Seattle will play for the state age 9-11 Little League all-star softball championship following its 11-1 win over Everett/Lake Stevens in Friday's loser's bracket final.

The Westsiders return to Gig Harbor to take on undefeated Magnolia/Northeast Seattle at 12:30 p.m. Saturday needing to win twice to take the title.

The Queen Anne/RUG/Ballard Junior age 13-14 baseball team opened West Region action in Bend, Oregon with a 14-8 loss to Nevada on Friday morning.

It plays a team to be determined at 2 p.m. Saturday in loser's bracket action.

West Seattle Little League, meanwhile, is hosting the state age 8-10 all-star softball tournament at its Bar-S complex but will not have a team there.

Renton is going as the District 7 champion and opens with a 3 p.m. Sunday game against the winner of a Saturday game between South Hill of Puyallup and Gig Harbor.

Taste and Best now open in the West Seattle Junction at the corner of Edmunds and California Ave SW will be serving the flavors of South India from 7 am to 10 pm every day. The full address is 4752 California Ave SW.

Westside Seattle was the first to report the change in our story July 3.

Owner Yajas Reddu said the Garlic naan and Tabdoori mushroom is one of their specialties, and he’s also very excited for their brunch.

The restaurant will serve pitchers of cocktails with Indian flavors as well as American breakfast dishes. “We are continuing the American breakfast and adding our South Indian dishes to it,” Reddu said.

West Seattle finds itself advancing to the loser's bracket final of the state age 9-11 all-star softball tournament in Gig Harbor after trouncing Issaquah by a 13-1 score Thursday.

The Westsiders go back over to the lower Kitsap Peninsula to play Everett/Lake Stevens in 6 p.m. Friday action.

The winner meets Magnolia/Northeast Seattle for championship play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday needing to win twice to take the title.

WestSide Baby celebrates 25 years with return of "Stuff the Bus" community campaign

As summer continues, WestSide Baby has announced the return of its signature community campaign, Stuff the Bus, aimed at providing essential items for local children. Now in its 25th year of service, the organization is calling on the community to help ensure every child in Western Washington has the basics they need to grow and thrive.

The campaign, which runs through August 31, 2026, addresses a critical gap in support. When school is out, families often lose access to vital resources like free meals and school-based connections, yet the need for basics remains. As WestSide Baby notes, "Diaper need doesn't take a summer break".

West Seattle wins another in victory over South Hill of Puyallup

West Seattle is alive and well in the loser's bracket of the state age 9-11 Little League all-star softball tournament in Gig Harbor after shutting out South Hill of Puyallup in a 9-0 game Wednesday.

The Westsiders now face Issaquah in a 6 p.m. Thursday game.

West Seattle entered the tournament as the District 7 champions.

It dealt Evergreen a 15-0 defeat Monday after opening with a 3-1 loss to Magnolia/Northeast Seattle on Sunday.
