Dear Mr. Robinson,
I wanted to write to you about two things.
1) I have been a Ballard resident for 7 years and have seen many changes to this paper. It has saddened me to see it go from individual papers to one combined with six other neighborhoods. I realize that is reality, though. With such limited space to cover so many areas, I believe that there is not space to re-print old articles written by your father (such as in the recent Jan. 10th article). I realize that these are trips down memory lane for you, but I think that given the space constraints that there are more pressing articles to print - ones that older Seattleites and newer ones, like me, would fine enlightening.
2) I disagree with your “The Missing Link” rant published in the 12/13 paper. I miss the view too, but the idea that a driver would be safer on the viaduct than the tunnel with a tsunami is preposterous (and we aren’t even in a tsunami zone). Why are you stoking fear in your readers? I was fearful every time I drove on the viaduct that Seattle would be hit by an earthquake. That was a real threat, not a tsunami on a state of the art tunnel.
I think it is ironic that Jean Godden (whose columns I appreciate) writes in her column next to yours how she was in favor of the viaduct being torn down when she was on the council. She gets it.
My husband and I support your paper because we do understand the importance of local journalism. Please continue to keep us informed about what is happening in our community and remind us, when appropriate, of the history of our neighborhoods.
Thank you and sincerely,
Elizabeth Kaehler
