Community action critical to stabilize blood supply through holidays

Highest blood and platelet usage since COVID-19 emergency began ; Donating blood remains a safe and essential health service

information from Bloodworks Northwest

As Oregon and Washington implement new state-wide coronavirus restrictions, Bloodworks Northwest reminds the community that donating blood remains a safe and essential health service as blood usage rises. Blood donors are urged to continue their vital role in sustaining community health by donating at Bloodworks centers or pop-up blood drives across the Pacific Northwest. Community action is critical over the next four weeks to stabilize the local blood supply through the holidays and into the new year.

A replacement is still potentially possible but given the forecast life of 15 to 40 years for the repaired structure it's uncertain when or what that might be. Man seriously wounded in West Seattle shooting

information from Seattle Police Blotter

One man was seriously wounded Tuesday after exchanging gunfire with another man at a home in West Seattle.

Around 11:30 AM, the suspect arrived at a house in the 6900 block of 24th Avenue Southwest. After an altercation in the home, the suspect and at least one other person in the home exchanged gunfire. The suspect fled the home and collapsed in the street, while the other person believed to have fired shots fled.

Officers arrived at the scene and provided aid to the wounded gunman. Medics arrived and transported him to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Officers are now searching the area for the person who fled the home.

The location where this incident occurred is known to officers in the Southwest Precinct, and SPD has been working with multiple city departments and neighbors to address ongoing community concerns at the home.
