Editorial: How can we curb mass shootings? What can be done about gun violence?

The only way to bring gun violence in this nation under control is to establish a national red flag clearing house/call center that coordinates tips from the public (NO anonymity…your name is registered too to prevent stupid angry neighbor or ex-husband style "tips") that through a well considered checklist then evaluates the urgency, validity and need for a type of action.. Arrest, visit, or simple notation. These tips which are currently overwhelming local law enforcement would be then fed to them in a more well edited format. Those that come in now to local agencies would be routed to the state offiice of the national call center. There IS an FBI tips hotline in existence now. Do you know that number? Did you know it existed? For the record it is 1-800-225-5324.

Strong arm robbery ends with no purse and assailant losing his phone

#2022-130520/Southwest Precinct/Third Watch: 

On 05-24-2022 at 2:52am, officers responded to the 4000 block of 26th Ave SW to a report of a strong-armed robbery of a purse. Victim was outside her residence when a suspect got out of a waiting car and grabbed victim’s purse.

The pair struggled over the purse with the victim falling to the ground.

Suspect got back in the car with the purse and left the area. Victim managed to keep almost the entire contents of her purse. Suspect dropped his cell phone.

A witness/friend of the victim told officers that the incident may have been a follow-up to an altercation at a bar earlier in the evening.

Man shot in shoulder after intervening at West Seattle Junction bar

#2022-130528/Southwest Precinct/First Watch: 

On 05-24-2022 at 2:30am, a suspect was heckling females at the Corner Pocket Billiards located at the 4300 SW Alaska St.

A male intervened and a disturbance ensued.

The intervening male victim left the establishment and went to the parking lot at an apartment building located in the area of 38 Ave SW/SW Oregon St.

The victim saw a black Escalade circle the block a couple of times.

A short time later the victim heard a gunshot, and he was struck in the left shoulder.

The victim was transported to St Anne in Burien, and SPD was notified about the incident by King County.

Officers didn’t locate a crime scene. GVRU was notified.

Suspicious incident leads to open letter to Sealth and Denny parents

The principals of Chief Sealth Internatilonal High School and Denny International Middle School sent a joint letter to the parents of their student's families regarding a suspicious incident that took place last week.

Dear Denny and Chief Sealth Families,

We want to share information with you regarding an incident that was reported to us involving three of our of 8th grade scholars last week on their way home from school. Near the small playground at the intersection of SW Cloverdale St. & 30th Ave. SW, two strangers, who were driving a reddish Toyota Camry with dark tinted windows (~2010 model), started talking with the girls, including inviting them to get in their car to get popsicles. The police have been contacted.

Duplex on 25th Ave. SW shot at by masked suspect who was not apprehended

#2022-129315/Southwest Precinct/Second Watch: 

On 05-22-2022 at 6:59pm hours, multiple callers reported shots being fired in the 4100 block 25th Ave SW in West Seattle.

Various suspect and vehicle descriptions were provided to 911.

Officers arrived and contacted witnesses who observed the shots being fired. They reported a suspect wearing a mask was walking on the sidewalk when he stopped and fired a handgun multiple times towards a duplex residence.

Two victims were sitting in the front yard of the duplex when the shooting began. The suspect then removed the mask and hastily walked westbound from the scene before walking out of sight.

Evidence of a shooting was located.

Both units of the duplex had bullet damage and an unoccupied home being built had also been struck.

The occupants of the home were not injured. The incident was screened with GVRU. SW patrol processed the scene and collected evidence.

The public is invited to share its feedback regarding the development plans for Louisa Boren STEM K-8 School located at 5950 Delridge Way SW, Seattle, WA 98106. The Seattle School District is requesting modifications (also known as “departures”) from City zoning regulation for:

1) Changing image message board signage in single family zones.
