Calvin Frederick Bannon passed March 7, 2019 reaching 98 years of an active, productive and charmed life. Born February 15, 1921, he resided his entire life on the shores of Fauntleroy in West Seattle. Cal was a World War II “Hump” pilot, flying C-47 (DC3) cargo planes on China-Burma-India routes.
Joann Judy (Jones) Morrison died on April 23, 2019 at age 83. During her life she was much beloved in many roles, including wife, mother, grandmother, neighbor, and colleague. Joann was born in Portland, Oregon, on a leap day, to Julia (Lacour) Jones and Ralph O. Jones. She was the middle child between two brothers, Ralph and Nova.
Nancy Spickler, 57 of Des Moines, WA, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2019 with family by her side. She was born in Seattle, WA on July 31, 1962 to the late Jack Bonathan and late Carmen Scott.
Nancy attended Des Moines Elementary, Pacific Jr. High and Mt Rainier High School, graduating in 1981. Nancy was a resident of Federal Way, Kent, and Auburn, WA yet in her heart, she remained a life-long resident of Des Moines.
Georgetta Marie Nupen, 91, peacefully passed Friday, March 22, 2019, at Aegis of Lynnwood, surrounded by loved ones, minutes after worship songs were sung to her. It is said they sung her into heaven. A celebration of life will be held at 1 pm, June 8, 2019 at Marcus Whitman Presbyterian, Des Moines, WA. Reception to follow.
Alice was born to Orville C. Wilson and Alice G. Wilson in Seneca, Kansas. After moving to Seattle, WA in 1942, she graduated from West Seattle High School in 1947. She married in 1949 to Glenn R. Ekoes at Holy Rosary Church. They had five children; Dan, Diane, Donna, David, and Jennifer. Her daughters Diane Goetz and Donna Ekoes pre-deceased her. Later, she married Jerry Crawford in 1978, who passed on in 1991. Alice was an active member of Holy Rosary Church for 74 years, participating in choir and the funeral reception committee.
Barbara K. Callow, 88 was born in West Seattle, WA, the only child of Robert R. and Kathryn E. Roach. She attended and graduated from West Seattle High School in 1948. She married Charles W. Callow, “the boy down the block” in April of 1948, after his return from the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. Barbara and her family resided in West Seattle until 1957, raising her three children as a full-time homemaker.
Caroline Crabtree, 97, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2019 at Providence Mt. St. Vincent in West Seattle. Proceeding her in death: mother Vera Kidd at 105 years, husband Robert (Bob) White, husband Orland (Pete) Crabtree, brothers Edward and John Kidd. She leaves behind sister Joan Olson, five daughters, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
William (Bill) John Mahon, born March 30, 1923 to James and Helen (Kerns) Mahon. Raised in Philadelphia by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. Graduated from high school in 1941. Entered U.S. Navy in 1942. Served one and one-half years in South Pacific and was discharged in 1945. Married “Sweet” Josephine Marie Hladik, October 2, 1946 in Sacramento, California. They moved from Sacramento to West Seattle in 1952 and never left. They were married 62 years. Retired in 1977 after 25 years with King County Sheriff’s Department. Audrey Van Voorhees, born in Coudersport, Pennsylvania August 27, 1922 and a long-time former resident of the West Seattle community, went to be with the Lord, March 18, 2019. She was 96 ½ years old and was preceded in death twelve years ago by her husband John. She is survived by her son Robert Van Voorhees (Cheryl), daughter Yvette Chambers (Larry), brother Douglas Post (Shirley), sister-in-law Barbara Post, and a multitude of nieces and nephews. She was a member of O.E.S., Crown Chapter and a dedicated member of her church, St.
Patricia A. Wamsley, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the age of 87. Patty was born in Winchester, ID in 1931 to Hilliard and Katherine Patton. She grew up near Craigmont, Idaho on the family homestead amongst a large extended family on the Camus Prairie. She attended St. Gertrude’s Academy in Cottonwood, Idaho before graduating from Craigmont High School. She went on to attend the University of Idaho and then received her teaching certificate from the Lewiston Normal. She taught elementary school in Pasco, WA until she married Arnold “Red” Wamsley, also of Craigmont in 1956.
