Zoo Tunes returns this summer; First three acts announced

ZooTunes is back! Woodland Park Zoo is welcoming guests back to the meadow this summer for the 37th annual BECU ZooTunes presented by Carter Subaru concert season! It will be a safe, socially-distanced way to make memories with your loved ones while supporting some of the best local talent the region has to offer. 

Woodland Park Zoo has partnered with legendary Seattle radio station KEXP for a very unique and extraordinary ZooTunes concert season. This year’s line-up will be curated by KEXP and will focus solely on local musicians.

HERBOLD: Reconnect West Seattle quarterly report

District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold shared this update on the Seattle Department of Transportation's efforts to reconnect West Seattle

SDOT recently released the a Reconnect WS quarterly update report for the first quarter of 2021. Reconnect West Seattle projects are designed to ameliorate the closure of the West Seattle Bridge. The report includes updates on recent work completed, upcoming work, how SDOT is tracking goals, and a status report on each of the 64 identified projects (the “Home Zones” in Highland Park, South Park and Georgetown are listed as one project each, though they all include  numerous implementation projects).

HERBOLD: Alki Point Stay Healthy Street update

District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold shared this update on the Alki Point Stay Healthy Street status.

“Keep it Moving Streets” are streets selected to increase outdoor exercise opportunities for people to bike and walk in the road for areas with limited open space options, low car ownership, and routes connecting people to essential services and food take out. Local traffic is still allowed on the streets.

The vast majority of people contacting me are very interested in making the Alki Keep it Moving Street a permanent “Stay Healthy Street” which would result in roads being closed to through traffic. Neighbors have surveyed users of the Keep it Moving Street over the last few months. You can see some of their results in the graph below.

Whitney Moore named as new Executive Director of West Seattle Chamber of Commerce

 

The Board of Directors of the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the appointment of Whitney Moore as the Chamber’s new Executive Director.

Moore brings to the West Seattle Chamber talents in community engagement, leadership, innovation, and a passion for small businesses. She has many years of leadership, communications, event planning and strategic marketing experience, and most recently worked with the Fremont Chamber of Commerce.

“Being a West Seattle resident—it’s a privilege to serve my local Chamber and our amazing community!” said Moore. “I plan on addressing the most pressing threats to our business community and continue working toward sustainable economic recovery and growth.”

Pat's View: The latent image and how photos have changed

When I was 12 my brother Ken came up to me and handed me a camera. He said,”start taking pictures”… there was no instruction, no tutorial, no mentoring. 

He knew it was our family way to just throw the rookie into the deep end and let them learn on their own.

That camera was a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, and it quickly became an object of fascination. The film advance knob, the shutter button, the viewfinder and lens but mostly, cameras in those days were about anticipation. It wasn’t until much later that I would learn about what is called the “latent image”
