West Seattle's retro headquarters West 5 closing after 19 years

Established in 2003 as a novel “Non-Smoking Cocktail Lounge” West 5 announced today that Feb. 12, 19 years to the month after they opened, will be their last day.

They said on social media:

West 5 announcement

Owner Dave Montoure, who founded the restaurant at 4539 California Ave SW,  was hopeful he could keep going if his lease was renewed but said the building owners raised the cost beyond what he could afford and in the face of the pandemic and short staff he chose to close.

Montoure, who grew up in West Seattle opened a seafood restaurant, Kettlefish in Silverdale in 2019. He was named Westsider of the year in 2016 by the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce.

Today is the survey deadline on re-naming 'Des Moines Creek Park' to 'SeaTac Des Moines Creek Park.' information from Seattle Department of Transportation

We finished assembling the east span work platforms that will be hoisted into place this weekend. We’ll begin the lift on Saturday morning, January 29, using industrial winches – a mechanical device for pulling in or winding out a wire cable – positioned on the bridge deck. Friendly reminder that the platforms are hoisted 120 feet above the ground!
