Alki Community Council honors lifetime neighborhood notables

Alki Community Council celebrated three lifetime achievement awards with trophies and chocolate cake on Thursday night.

Each honoree spoke on the importance of community and Alki. It was a convivial night celebrating the councils achievements with people who’ve worked together for decades to improve safety for people, animals, and the natural environment in one of Seattle’s oldest neighborhoods.

Tony Fragada, Current Board Trustee, Past President and Board Officer told the crowd about learning how important it is to protect the land, animals, and the environment when he was living and working in Alaska.

Saloy second, Williams third in state golf

Ginevra Saloy of Seattle Christian snagged second place in the girls Class IA state golf tournament and Lucas Williams of Ballard took third in the Class 3A boys early this week.

Williams stood out with his score among tough competition, shooting an impressive 67 the first day and also finishing under par with a 71 the second for a total of 38.

Saloy shot a 73 and a 76 for a two-day total of 149 in her tournament.

Joining Williams in the 3A boys tournament was Davis Thompson of West Seattle, who missed making it past the first day cut with a round of 79.

Saloy was joined by Warriors teammates Brooklyn and Addison Partridge, who turned in rounds of 109 and 110, respectively, to miss their first day cut as well.

Furthermore, both the "The Porch" all-ages garden and the 21+ beverage garden will utilize reusable drink cups, supported by free water refill stations located throughout the grounds.

Howard Morris Call

Howard Morris Call (August 15, 1939 – March 20, 2026) passed away peacefully at the age of 86 at St. Anne’s Hospital in Burien, Washington.

Born in Electric City, Washington, Howard grew up with a love for learning, sports, and community that defined his life. He attended Napa Community College, Seattle Pacific University, and Western Washington University, laying the foundation for a distinguished career in education.

White Center "Glows Up": King County celebrates new lights and major road improvements

The White Center community gathered on May 21 for a "Glow Up" celebration, marking the completion of several major infrastructure projects designed to make the neighborhood safer and more vibrant. The event, held during the monthly Rat City Art Walk at the corner of 16th Avenue SW and SW 98th Street, served as the official debut for decorative lighting and significant road safety upgrades.

Alki Community Council to honor legacy volunteers and discuss pedestrian safety at May meeting

The Alki Community Council (ACC) is set to gather this Thursday, May 21, from 7:00–8:30 PM at the Alki UCC (6115 Hinds Street) for a meeting focused on "Community, Progress, and Impact".
