SUV ends up on beach at Cormorant Cove Park

A large emergency response call went out around 6:10 for a vehicle which was on the beach at Cormorant Cove Park, just adjacent to the Harbor West Condominiums on Beach Drive SW.

The Beach Drive Blog covered the story and it appears that the vehicle may have been stolen. It was a Hyundai Tucson SUV of the type that is highly subject to theft.

It appears that the vehicle was driven down to the beach over the sidewalk, grass, rocks and driftwood before becoming stuck in the sand.

There is public access boat ramp just to the north of Harbor West that was installed when they were constructed but that route was not taken.

Why we haven't had a forensic engineering study on why the West Seattle Bridge failed

In July of 2020, Westside Seattle published story regarding the lack of a full explanation for the failure of the West Seattle Bridge. We called for what is known as a Forensic Engineering study of the failure, by an outside engineering firm. Such studies examine everything from the original plans, to the modification of those plans during construction, to the reports about the construction and obviously the history of the bridge and incidents that led to the failure. Forensic Engineering is not inexpensive with fees ranging in the hundreds of thousands of dollars or more. But as we wrote in 2020:

Information from District 1 City Councilmember Lisa Herbold

On Wednesday evening I attended a Town Hall hosted by the Westside HEY Coalition at Denny Middle School to address youth substance use prevention.   The HEY coalition works to “promote a healthy and safe community through collaboration, education, and empowerment so that Westside youth can thrive.”  The Town Hall was an opportunity to learn about many of the programs of the HEY coalition including, but not limited to, Parent Education Nights and Drug Take Back Days.
